“MLA! MLA!” These were the words my 8th grade English teacher Mr. Robs would yell at me. Being an 8th grader, I was not entirely used to a more advanced writing style. It was similar to what I had been used to writing with only a few more advancements such as 1” margins as well as a header in the corner. However, I would find out his style of MLA was not all that correct either, and when I moved to The Meadows, I had to re-learn MLA. Writing has not always been my favorite but when I get started, I get on a roll and cannot stop until I finish. English as a class itself is not that interesting in my own opinion but it ends up being the teachers that make it tolerable. However, when we do more in class elements such as projects and papers, that also makes it more fun because we are being proactive and not sitting around listening to a lecture. Of course, there are days when I do not want to do anything, and the best part is when I walk into class and we get to watch a movie or write a basic in class essay.…

    My Literacy Journey

I’ve always had the desire to write beautifully, from penmanship to placement and flow of the words. I remember getting birthday cards from my Granny with elegant cursive writing. Attracted to the way each word blended so smooth and soft, I would get a piece of paper and mimic the slants of each word connecting each letter, more like one lowercase “l” after another, to the next. One day I’d be able to spell the words in my mind, and until that day I’d practice my “cursive” one squiggly line at a time.…

Writing has been a passion of mine since childhood. During elementary I wrote complex stories of whimsical adventures in my notebooks. Pages upon pages would be filled with fairies, castles, and daring rescues. My passion for writing continued into middle school. My friends and I would create stories together about band members or celebrities we were obsessed with. A website allowed us to use our new-found technological skills to write stories about characters and then share them with other people who enjoy the same characters. Middle school transitioned to high school, and my writing skills seemed to be lacking.…
