Goal 1

To Establish and Maintain a Safe, Healthy, Learning Enviornment

There are several things that I do everyday to ensure the saftey of my classroom. I always maintain an accurate child supervision record and do my classroom counts every 30 minutes, or more often when necessary, to make sure that my head count matches the actual number of children in my classroom. The way the classroom is set up also helps ensure the safty of the children. Our stations are set up to reduse open floor space and the opportunity to run freely indoors. I have also protected any sharp table or cabinet corners to prevent an injury if a child falls. I keep my emergency routes posted and easily visible from any where in the room and my emergency contacts are always with my CSR's and easily accessible. At the end of each day I clean and sanitize my classroom and remove any broken toys that could cause an injury to a child.

We also make sure that proper hand washing techniques are being used before and after eating, using the restroom, doing art or science projects, or any other activity when hand washing may be necessary. Kindercare is a large company and this helps us consistently provide healthy and nutritious meals every day. We always provide meals and snacks that are part of a well balanced diet. In order to establish and maintain a safe, healthy learning environment I first begin with providing a clean and organized classroom. All toys and equipment are sanitized on a daily basis, all outlets are covered and all fixtures are mounted to the walls to prevent from tipping over. Upon entering the classroom every parent is required to sign a daily health check in which the teacher and the parent both assess the health of each child. Healthy meals and snacks are provided to each and every child, keeping in mind, the allergies that each child has. Medicines are also carried for each student that requires it on a daily basis. The classroom tables are wiped down and sanitized and the floor is swept after each meal. The children also brush their teeth after meals to help the children gain healthy brushing habits. One of my goals is to promote healthy habits. To establish and maintain a healthy environment is to prevent the spread of germs and promote healthy eating habits. Germs can be easily spread among the age group of children in my care, because they are in close contact with each other. One of the ways I promote a healthy environment is hand washing. I wash my hands and wear gloves before and after handling food, helping with toileting, changing diapers and cleaning noses. I have the children wash their hands during similar times and ensure that they do it properly. Cleaning and sanitizing play areas daily and mouthed toys are immediately removed from the play area and sanitized at the end of the day. I teach the children about healthy eating on a daily basis. At lunch and snack time we talk about the healthy foods and not so healthy foods that they are eating and what food is best for their growing bodies. I have two weeks of lesson…

I Support positive self concepts and social skill all day at arrival time, children are allowed to play table toys with friend, thus being Thus being able through gestures and speech, to have social interactions. Another activity that encourages social interaction is music time. Sometimes children hold a colorful parachute handle while waving it up and down. This is a good way to learn to cooperate with peers and share materials. Another social activity is out door at the park. The children learn how to take turns eon swings and slides, and they can use their imagination to play fun games together which helps them practice decision making (such as who will be the mommy, who will be tagged etc). They can observe each other at play and imitate each other or movements in order to learn a new skill, such as sliding down the pole.…

The teachers do excellent with the greeting and departing of students, meals and snacks, and health practices. Young children show separation anxiety as they become upset when their parents leave them. So the teachers create a welcoming atmosphere that allows the children to feel comfortable, so when the parents say “goodbye,” the child is prepared for the departure and knows that their parent will back in a few hours. Also, the child can use the caregiver as a secure base, which permits them to explore the classroom environment and return to the caregiver for emotional support if need be. Areas that could be improved are diapering/toileting and safety practices. There is no schedule that has checks of the diaper changes every two hours. However, all the students except for a handful are only at the school for three hours. Regarding safety practices, there are some areas in the classroom that pose as safety hazards such as open stairwell access and mats that have foot-catching…

To establish and maintain a safe, healthy learning environment I model safety practices and healthy routines in an environment that supports development and growth in these areas. My goal is to provide a clean healthy environment that meets each child’s physical needs. Making sure the classroom and playground are clean and safe at all times reduces the number of injuries of children while they are in my care. One of the ways I do this is by supervising children at all times. Making sure all outlets are covered so children can’t access them. I make sure inside as well as outside there is nothing children can harm themselves on such as sharp objects or small items they can choke on.
