In the Self-directed search my code is SIC. Some of the occupations that match my code are a hearing aid specialist, informatics nurse specialist, critical care nurse, and telecommunicator. The leisure activities that I may enjoy based on my code include ghost hunting, mythology, nutrition, self-help groups, and tutoring. The other occupations I thought about earlier in life were a preschool teacher, secondary school teacher, and an ultrasound technologist. None of these match my code. Job analysis is a very important piece of the building blocks of Industrial Organizational psychology . Conducting a job analysis provides knowledge of capabilities to the individual interested in the profession and the organization that is interested in hiring the individual. Knowing the capabilities of the individual is key in determining how productive the individual is capable of being in the desired profession. A process must be done is to identify the attributes—the KSAOs that is needed for performing the tasks required for the job and to perform the worker-oriented behaviors described in the job. The KSAO’s are Skill –a practiced act , Ability -the stable capacity to engage in a specific behavior", other characteristics, Personality variables - interests, training, and experiences. After these KSAOs are identified, tests and other assessment techniques can be done to measure those KSAOs. A variety of personality test can be done before entering college to access which career would fit an individual. If the desired profession is to be a residential therapist, it would require the right personality and skill set for the job. A residential therapist skill set would need to provide to a broad range of services because the job requires to work directly with individuals, families couples and groups in a variety of settings, such as mental health clinics, private practice, hospitals and schools. The result from the Career Interests Profiler was that I was realistic, conventional, and artistic. It is interesting under the realistic list, it states “require working outside, and do not involve a lot of paperwork or working closely with others.” I do like to work outside with our animals and I do not like to work closely with others but I am involved with a lot of paperwork as an accountant. There is not a day that I do not deal with paperwork. Under conventional, it states involves “working with data and details more than with ideas,” which I like to work with numbers that are actual numbers and not made up numbers that some of my clients like to give me to work with. The trait and Factor theory was originally started by Frank Parsons to help individuals find the best job or line of work for themselves. This theory states that a person will be able to do their work to the best of their ability if it fits with their personality and abilities. Therefore Parsons came up with a way to assist in the guiding of those who do not know what kind of work will be best for them. In the theory Parsons set up a seven stage career counseling guideline to assist the career counselor in guiding the individual toward the appropriate job. These seven guidelines are: personal data, self-analysis, client choice, counselor analysis, outlook of the field, reasoning/advice, and helpfulness. When a person is guided with this process there is no doubt that they will find the type of job that is not only best for them, but one that they will excel at. Parsons’ theory of trait and factor can help and individuals find their personality when they have forgotten their way. Many times people just go through life, waking up going to work, go home then go to sleep. If a person is able to do a job they love, their overall life will be better, they will be happy in their work, and this will lead to happiness at home. When a person is happy they will develop better relationships with those around them. Therefore the use of the ideas in the trait and factor theory in helping to place a person in the right vocation for that individual will help the person with their interpersonal relationships as well. The ability to do ones job well and with joy will help the individual to have a better relationship with their boss, co-workers, friends and family.
