CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION Cell phones in the country have not only broadened communications and introduced new and faster lifestyles, but have also brought along a culture of highly modern technological times. According to Duque ( 2003 ) this gadgets have not only take hold of the country’s fancy, like computers, it ushered in a new age, eased work and introduced several data and swept the country with new sense of speed and power. Among Filipinos who are seafaring, world migrant, cell phones in eject shortened the size of the world and her communication lanes (Manila Bulletins). To numerous overseas workers as country’s new heroes who strengthened the dollar reserves of our country, cell phones are heaven sent, cheaper than long distance and separation of families and friends. Filipinos values and clannish relations are kept intact through letters and tape diskettes, where message are sent back and forth among overseas workers and their kin. Mails took a longer time to send and stamps costlier with weight. Cell phones provided instant gratification and contacts at cheaper price and shorter times for travel and trade messages. Cell phones depending on models such as Motorola, Erickson and Nokia cost P5, 000 upwards to P25, 000. While valuable cell phone is a onetime purchased expenses a prepaid cards are needed to activate 2-way contact , which increases allowances, benefits and other expenses of a certain person or family. Prepaid card will be added to their regular steep household expenses like food, gas, land phones, electric, tuitions and other obligatory bills that sometimes strain
