Akwasi, both you and your wife's professions provide such positive benefits for our society. I agree that a cell phone is very important in today's world. It's funny to recall how our lives were so different before them. I think that one big advantage of them is that they help give us added personal security by being able to call for help in the event of our car breaking down or being able to check in with our teens when they are away from home, not even mentioning the bonus of texting. The Haiti earthquake is a great example of a terrible environmental event. I remember watching how horrific the human effects were on the news coverage. I had not realized about the deforestation happening there. Great information in your…

The usage of cellular phones has become ubiquitous in our American society, illustrating the growing effects of technology on our advancing society. It is nearly impossible to imagine entering any public setting without encountering at least one person using a cell phone because this has become a part of normal, everyday life. The benefits to mobile communication are numerous; however, many would argue that the detriments are abundant as well. An impartial view of the effects of cell phone use would still reveal that an evolution in society has been caused by and is still occurring because of cell phones. New methods of communication inevitably will lead to a change in social behavior. This paper will explore the changes that have occurred since the introduction of cell phones and evaluate the significance of these changes towards American culture using the four major theoretical perspectives in sociology: symbolic interactionism, functional analysis, conflict theory, and feminism.…

As the technology of cell phones is increasing rapidly, the negative effects on people is growing fast as well . The first effect is being distracted while operating a Vehicle. There are different kinds of distractions for using a cell phone while driving but the common one is visual distraction, which is watching a cell phone screen instead of the road and trying to reach to the ring ton. Being a driver requires to have attention on the road but trying to use cell phone makes somebody loose control of his or her car and crash. The second effect is trying to dial the number while operating the vehicle this is also deadly somebody can cause an accident to the person who is driving in front of the car or to pedestrian r. The final effect is talking on the cell phone and driving as the same time. This driver is driving by concentrating on the conversation but not the road. A telephone conversation causes considerably slower reactions to the traffic environment. Driver, who is on cell phone conversation, drives very slow causing a long traffic. In addition, since the person attention is on the cell phone not on the road, there is a possibility of causing accident to the car in the front or hitting a pedestrian. Times have changed tremendously in the last twenty five years in regards to how the world communicates with each other. The birth of new technology such as cell phones with internet capability, laptop computers, and even the recently released I-Pad has made communication with anyone outside of talking distance immediately accessible. Even though to many people this seems like a movement in the right direction for the future of the world, there are still people who hold firm on the idea that communicating with people face to face is much better for society. Teenagers today use cell phones much more than any other age group, but they are not the only ones affected; parents and even young children have become wrapped up in mobile connectivity. Cell phone companies understand this and in an effort to make more money, they put out new hardware such as newer, more stylish cell phones and software such as internet, text messaging, and applications that can hold anyone’s attention for long periods of time. For the working class mothers and fathers, a call from the boss on a Saturday afternoon to come into work is never far away from possible. Each of these things causes problems in society that were less noticeable in past years, whereas the addiction to cell phones today is a full blown epidemic. Though cell phones have many positive functions and can help people in their everyday lives, the same negative effects of cell phones will only continue to grow and spread throughout society, and essentially have the capability to change everyday life as we know it now.…

We were on our way into Manhattan for our monthly shopping trip to Wal-Mart. I was riding in the backseat as always, being the youngest. My oldest sister, Nicole, was in a state of the utmost euphoria, because today was the day she got her first cellphone. My parents made her a promise that if she was getting good grades they would buy her a cellphone her freshman year of high school. She would be the first one of her friends to get one, and she was ready to brag about it; however, my parents had some stipulations. The phone would stay at home during the school day as not to tempt her to text in class, the phone would not be used during family activities or dinner, and the phone would stay off until homework was complete. Nicole reluctantly agreed to all the restrictions and she picked out the prized phone. Unlike then, today the stipulations set by my parents are obsolete. All of the rules have become commonplace in society and are accepted by the majority of the nation. Cellphones have piloted society into a fallacy leading our youth into problems with school, safety, and communication, which has the potential to destroy personal relationships and etiquette in modern society.…
