In “Extra large, Please,” Alice M. Davies focuses on the increase of obesity with children, which schools are provoking. There are many various social problems in kids of America today ranging from poverty to drug abuse. One alarming factor that is rapidly exploding is childhood obesity. Alice Davies’ article, “‘Extra Large,’ Please,” which describe the alarming social problem of childhood obesity connected to the fast food industry in America today. Davies stated: “the number of American kids who are dangerously overweight has tripled. More than 16 percent of our children qualify as ‘obese’” (Davies). Although childhood obesity is a growing problem stemming from a terrible diet and lack of exercise, we can take action now to avoid further detriment towards their future health. The first cause of childhood obesity is the lack of inactivity. Many schools are not required to have any physical education. Unfortunately, Davies’ states: “Many of those schools are so short of money they’ve scrapped physical-fitness classes” and “too few communities have athletic programs in place.” It is terrible that schools have a hand in this growing epidemic. Also, Spurlock’s Supersize Me documentary shows that “schools are cutting out recess to study for testing and only one state requires physical-fitness classes.” It is terrible that most of these children taking exams are obese. In addition, they live in a dangerous neighborhood where they can’t go out and play because drug activity and violent crime may make playing outside dangerous. Communities should take part in making the neighborhood a safe haven for kids to play outside. The second cause of childhood obesity is poor eating habits. Children will rather eat candy instead of focusing on the products that are good for the body. Parents play a major role when it comes to allowing or giving their child food that will damage the body more less providing nutrients. Children need to leave the junk food behind…
Could you image going through your whole life, without a cell phone? Many of us have become accustom to the new technology that allows us to communicate so effectively. Today the world uses technology in almost everything it does. No modern artifact has the capability to be so incredibly noticeable and brilliantly built as the cell phone. Cell phones play a huge role in our daily lives. They are an item that every one possesses from, children, students, workers, parents, and etc. In today’s society people would say that the cell phone is a necessity. Starting off as big and bulky, the cell phone has quickly evolved to an easy to carry sophisticated item. Cell phones are changing American culture in multiple ways, from culture norms, values, and use of time. Many say that cell phones are good, but some say they are bad. Is this an argument we could make? However, are cell phones talking away from our students or helping them? It is extremely important; reason is cell phones are affecting our students every day. How are they helping the society, or are they destroying it?…

If Cell phones were allowed in school there would be no way to control what applications they are using and how they are using them. Allowing Cell phones in school would provide distractions for students and teachers, allowing for cheating on tests, and for use of calculators which are unnecessary. If a student’s cell phone rang during class, it would…
Cell phones have changed the way people socially interact with each other. Nowadays, anyone anywhere can just pick up their cell phone and call each other at any time of the day or night. (Stewart 1). In the past when there were just house phones around, people could use the excuse “Sorry I wasn’t home to answer your call” but now, with the emerging of cell phones, people will get a hold of you somehow. Cell phones are considered to be your own personal property while house phones are considered to be used for the family. Cell phones depend on satellite and signal, which means anyone, can take their cell phones anywhere they choose, while house phones depend on the wires in the house which limits anyone from using it outside of the house. (Stewart 1). For example, someone could be on their house phone and their little brother could be eavesdropping on the conversation. No one would want that, would they? On the other hand, cell phones are more personal and most of them have Wi-Fi which leads them to be connected to the internet. Now people are more socially involved on the web through Facebook, Twitter, Instant Messaging, etc. However, cell phones have both a positive and negative effect on people.…
Cell phones has affected the way we socialize these days; if you notice people are starting to text their friends and family instead if actually speaking verbally. You go out to dinner and look around and see people out with family but there is no conversations going on at the table mostly just huh… yeah… mmhm.., because they are busy texting someone not there on their phones. I feel human communicant is slowly disappearing among friends and family. You even see parent’s texting their kids when in the same house to discuss something with them. People in relationships hold everything in until they are able to text it to their other half. Our communication between each other is depending on a little electronic device. People use cell phones in public places, and during church. I have even seen ten-year olds walking across the street texting their friends instead of paying attention to the cars.…

(A) Cell phone usage puts people’s lives at risk, and many times is fatal. The more tasks a driver is given, the worse they do. Cell phone usage while driving removes the main task people should be focusing on – driving. Cell phone use replaces driving with what the person is talking about, which endangers someone and the others on the road with them. (B) While many adults have started using their cell phones on the road, the main problem is the teenagers aged sixteen to nineteen. Up and coming drivers are seeing their parents using cell phones while driving so they follow their example. With the fairly new “no cell phone use while driving” law, many teenagers are still getting used to it, and has become a law that most people break. (C) “Studies show that the more tasks you dump on drivers—listening, evaluating, answering questions—the worse they perform. They drift off course, miss cues, overlook hazards, and react slowly. In brain scans, you can see the shift of blood flow from spatial-management to language-processing areas.” Studies show that when talking on a cell phone, a person focuses more on the task at hand instead of driving. (D) Cell phone use while driving is fatal. A person can drift into other lanes resulting in a head-on collision, or not see pedestrians which could kill others. Cell phone usage while driving is dangerous, and should be outlawed nationwide.…
With all of the changes in technology over the last five years the human race would be lost. Humans use cell-phones for almost everything. Without cell-phones communication would be gone. Cell-phones help provide a means of communication. Cell-phones can provide students with new ways of learning. Cell-phones can provide an easier way for research. Cell-phones are very convenient for the human race. Cell phones expand the ways people look at the world. There is a lot of debating whether or not cell-phones should be allowed in school, there are many negative opinions about this topic but there are also many positive opinions about this topic. Cell-phones should be allowed in school.…
On February 4 2002, a driver of a Ford Explorer lost control of his vehicle while commuting on a Washington highway and hurtled passengers in the minivan with which it collided were killed over a guardrail into oncoming traffic. The driver of the SUV and four unsuspecting passengers in the minivan with which it collided with were killed (“Car Accident”). Until this accident, federal investigators with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) had never “identified use of a cell phone as a possible factor” in a fatal automobile crash (“Car Accident”).…
Cell phone use while driving has caused unnecessary injuries and deaths throughout history. Those injuries and deaths prove the ignorance of the victims and set an example for others. Many people have lost their loved ones in cell phone related accidents but with every experience come a lesson, which in this case is that cell phone use while driving should not be allowed. The road would be a safer place to drive if the use of cell phone while driving is prohibited.…
Another social problem that could occur is cyber-bullying. If cell phones were allowed to be used throughout the school day, it would be easier and there would be more time for students to use technology to bully other students (and without getting caught, unless the victim reports the bullying, which is quite rare).…
Many schools across the globe let students use their phones in class. May it be for research, music, or just to play games in downtime, the schools allow them to be on their phones. A lot of other schools disapprove of students having their cell phone out for any reason at all. I think that all schools should allow their students to have their phones for many different reasons. But some students will try to abuse it, which should not be allowed to take part in being allowed to be on their phones.…
