As time passed and society grew larger and larger, so did the way we communicate to each other. We went from face to face interaction, to handwritten letters, to typed letters, to phone calls, to email. Now in the twenty-first century most of society has cell phones. With cell phones they have two different functions. One is to call and actually talk and the other one is to type what you want to say and send it to another person who also has a cell phone and receive it as a text. As the years pass younger and younger children start to get there first cell phone. When someone gets a cell phone at any age may be susceptible to cancer, when it comes time to start driving become a hazard, and have a lack of social skills.
As someone grows up they are constantly around radiation. Natural radiation from the sun and unnatural radiation from practically anything human made. When you add having a cell phone, they are just putting radiation close to the body. Cell phones emit radio waves, a form of non-ionizing radiation. Tissue nearest to the cell phone can absorb the energy given off by it (Larjavaara). So when holding a call with a cell phone it is basically holding radiation next to the brain. Therefore, the brain is absorbing direct contact with radiation. The other place that gets the full blast of this would be either side of your thigh, depending on which pocket the phone is held in. Although we do not know whether cancer can be directly related to cell phone use yet, scientists are still doing studies to make sure whether it is or is not. One of the studies known as “COSMOS,” which has participants record their lifestyle before and after cell phone use for 20 years (National).
Now that cell phones have gotten to be a common item to have with you when you are driving, people are becoming more careless. When driving any vehicle, that should have your undivided attention so a mishap does not happen. In the couple years since cell phones have become popular there have been more people using them while driving. This in itself is a hazard just as bad as drunk driving because it is splitting your attention in two. From the National Safety Council Report it states, “that in simulated driving tests, those subjects that were asked to carry on a cell phone conversation were so distracted that they went unaware of some traffic signals (Cellphone)”. There are two different ways to use the phone when driving. One way is a hands on way, which consists of dialing, answering, text messaging, etc (Cellphone). The other way is by hands free use of your phone. Although there is no involvement with the phone directly, it still preoccupies the thought process and distracts from driving. As it shows in the graph, the relation between the total deaths with cell phone users “wireless subscribers” are significantly high. Also, the graph shows the relation with the cell phone users and the amount of motor vehicle fatalities (Philip).
People use cell phones all the time. Since the cell phone was created, it has made it less of a hassle to get ahold of someone. “Never again will you miss that interview call back or message that your friend came through surgery safely. As long as it’s charged, your cellphone provides immediate communication with your world (Buczynski).” When Technology advanced and cell phones became more slim and capable of installing apps on it, it revolutionized how we used the phone.
App-stravaganza. Mobile apps started out as toys–ringtones, arcade games, calendars and calculators–but have since completely revolutionized cell phone technology. Apps turn our phones into pedometers, personal trainers, tuning forks, shopping guides, nutritionists, music libraries, stores, televisions and more (Buczynski).
However, Thanks to mobile phones, the landline phone has become obsolete. Since that has gone obsolete, it is nearly impossible to say they missed the call. Also since new phone are coming out each year or even every couple months that make about one hundred million cell phones obsolete as well (Buczynski). With the newer batteries that are made from lithium-ion the batteries are susceptible to exploding from overheating. More importantly now cell Phones have become a necessity instead of a luxury in a daily life. In an American teen the preferred social tool to communicate is to text. There was a poll done by the Pew Research Center’s Internet and American Life Project that shows, “75 percent of teens between the ages of 12 and 17 now have cell phones, up from 45 percent in 2004. And the number who say they text-message daily has shot up to 54 percent from 38 percent in just the past 18 months (Ludden)”. When using a cell phone as young as 12 and growing up only using this form the most the person grows up feeling uncomfortable using Face to face interaction. Without being able to confront another person they usually become an outcast in school. Some schools have made it a rule to have the S\students cell phone turned off or on silent so they do not use it during the school day, however, “fifty-eight percent of students with mobile phones say they've sent a text message during class (Ludden)”. It has been my experiences that some teachers do not care if the student has a cell phone out during class as long as the get their work done. Other students with phones use their phone not to text but to entertain themselves not because they are bored but because they have developed a social anxiety from not being able to talk face to face with another. “It can seem so unbearable that they might feel too nervous to give answers in class, be unable to make eye contact with classmates in the hallway, or avoid chatting with others at the lunch table (Lyness)”.
The way we communicate has sure come a long way. From direct contact, to hand written sentiment, to wireless communication through cell phones email etc. As the society moves forward to more advanced technology let’s make sure to not let things like cell phones control us and not let it diminish our self being. Always remember that these things are for to make life easier not to run our life for us.

Cell phones draw a driver 's attention away from traffic, road conditions and vehicle operation. Some studies have shown this may increase the likelihood of an accident by four times the normal rate. A large part of this distraction involves the need to physically handle the phone. This may cause the driver to remove their hands from the wheel or their eyes from the road. While listening to the person speaking or while answering a text the driver becomes less likely to hear another driver 's horn or an emergency siren. When thoughts are focused on the conversation, especially if it is upsetting they are less focused on driving. This leads to multitasking.…

April frawley Birdwll insists that the problem of using cell phone seems to be growing, and some people lose a relationship or a job due to the cell phones. However, his opinion is biased. He only focuses on the problem of cell phone. Actually, cell phones bring people more benefits than problems. Children using cell phones can make more friends than those don not use. Cell phone is a tool for communication with each other. By using cell phones, children can contact with their fiends no matter what time is or where they are located. The author writes “the most shocking figure was that seven percent said the use of mobile phones had caused them to lose a relationship or a job.” That is totally wrong. The mobile phone is a good tool which can bond relationship with relatives or friends, and can help people to get a job. For instance, a greeting message or a short conversation by phone can increase the relationship between peoples who are located a long distance.…

Ever been stuck at a light behind somebody who is not paying attention because of their cell phone? It's annoying right. Well that might not be a problem anymore. Many states have banned the use of hand-held devices while driving. Knowing about all the people that have been killed in accidents involving cell phones, I one-hundred percent agree with this law. Using your cell phone while driving can lead to lack of focus on the road, especially among young drivers who are not as experienced as their adult counterparts. Driving takes an extreme amount of concentration, due to the many things that could happen on the road. From cars slamming on brakes in front of you, to people cutting in and out of traffic, you need to have your undivided…

Thus, you will see more drivers on the road who are using their phones or you might even have been in a car where the driver was using their phones irresponsibly while they were driving. It is because of this reason why the dangers of texting and driving should be more publicized and banned nationwide since a good number of people are still experiencing drivers out on the road with their phones out. At any given daylight moment across America, approximately 660,000 drivers are using cell phones or manipulating electronic devices while driving, a number that has held steady since 2010 (NOPUS). The lives of innocent people are being taken every day due to a simple distraction. Car crashes are four times more common to take place while the driver is on their mobile device over any other causes. Most people don’t seem to realize how careless they can be while driving a car. Talking on a cell phone is not as dangerous as texting these days. While talking on the phone, it is easier to still keep focused on the road in front of the driver. When they engage in a text message, it’s not possible to look in both directions at once; therefore all of their focus goes straight to the screen of the cell phone. It’s hard for all drivers, especially teenagers, to put down the cell phone and put their hands on the wheel, which results in many car crashes.…

Using a handheld cell phone could be one of the deadliest decisions you could make while operating a motor vehicle. The dangers and impact of using a cell phone while behind the wheel are numerous. One of the main reasons people still use their cell phones while driving is that there is no consistency in the laws across the country. Certain states have legislation that bans cell phone use, while other states only ban certain usage situations. Tough federal legislation is the only way to decrease the use of handheld cell phones while driving. The tougher the laws are, the less likely people will be to use their cell phones in non emergent situations, therefore decreasing accident rates and fatalities throughout the United States.…

All it takes is one ring and someone will look down at their phone while driving. People can not go anywhere with out their cellular device. They can barely do two things at the same time. Imagine someone trying to operate a car and play on their cell phone at the same time. For example that is why so many commercials now advertise the use of cell phones while driving. This is to show people how dangerous it is. Someone's life is not worth sending a text over. In addition, while driving a car it is always good to use the turn signals to communicate with other drivers around. Wrecks are often caused from miscommunication too! For example, the people who get on their cellular device as soon as they get to a red light or stop sign. They are so worried about checking their notifications, they do not think to help out the other drivers surrounding them. Then this leads to the miscommunication. It can also then lead to a wreck. If someone does not use any of there signals to help communicate with the drivers around them, then they can pull out in front of someone who they thought was not turning. In conclusion, no one wants to be the reason of a wreck just because they were trying…

Driving can be very dangerous on its own without distractions but when you add driving while using a cell phone in the mix you have the perfect ingredients for a disaster. I believe cell phones are very dangerous while driving by using them for voice and especially texting and should be banned. Some reasons I believe this is when a driver is talking on the phone they are focusing more on the conversation than driving. The second reason is when your texting you are looking down and also not focusing on the road. Lastly cell phones are basically mini computers now and if a driver receives an email and believes that they must answer the email at that time can also cause an accident because they are not focused on the road.…
