Cell Phones in the Class Room

Cell phones are great technical devices and important today in modern life, but they should not be allowed in the class room. Cell phone use should be saved for after class. They could be used for researching things for class but not while in class. Cell phones are distracting, can be used for cheating, and are even disrespectful to the teacher.

Cell phones are a huge distraction to students and even teachers. A ringing cell phone can pause the whole class and slow the momentum of the teaching. It greatly affects students learning by the temptation of it being right in their pocket. A vibrating cell phone is almost instinct to check right away, therefor distracting what could be a very important point in the lecture. When bored with the lecture going on students can easily surf the web, get on social media, and send text messages. If they were allowed, it would be all too easy to pull up twitter instead of doing something beneficial to learning. Students cannot be expected to learn if they are not even paying attention

As a student cheating can be tempting. A cell phone makes that even worse. Cheating in the classroom is the worst thing you can do, and cell phones make that easier. Notes used to be passed to cheat but now cellphones are used. Students can take pictures of the test and answers and send them to many other students and before long the whole class could have it. Taking it even farther students can ask to be excused to go to the bathroom and send texts to get answers. Cell phones nowadays are advanced enough that students could look up test answers quickly at the palm of their hand. The possibilities for cheating using a cell phone are limitless.

Among all these things it is also disrespectful to the teacher to look at your phone while they are trying to give you knowledge to better yourself. Some professors would even kick students out. Any person does not like when they are talking to someone and they are not listening just looking down at their phone. This case is much worse in a classroom setting; the least you could do is give your attention to someone trying to teach you.

From all of the cons of cell phones in the classroom, it can be concluded that they should not be allowed. They cause a lot of distractions from sounds to the temptation to surf the web. Cheating is made a lot easier with cell phones and more widely used now. Most importantly it is also disrespectful to the teacher and could result in getting kicked out of the classroom.

They say that to be able to use phone students need to learn how to use them appropriately. One of the main reasons for this rule is cheating on tests. Staff worries that if students have access to their phones during tests they will use them to their advantage, this is also why some teachers do not allow students to listen to music during a test. Students may also take advantage of these situations and go on social media, text friends, and use their phone inappropriately. Students can also get distracted if they are on their phones during a lesson. They could text a friend and if they reply back the phone could make a noise or it could vibrate and not only distract the student who's phone it is, but the whole class. Many students don’t know how to control themselves and put the phone down. They would rather respond to a text message instead of ignoring it and pay attention to the class. Almost every cell phone out there has games and many other distractions for students. If the student does not have self-control then it would be almost impossible for him/her to put the phone down.…

Another reason cell phones should not be banned in classrooms is because students can use them as a reminder or planner. Generally, cell phones have a calendar built in the device. In my biology class, I have a unit 5 test, unit portfolio assessment and a lab report due all on different days; I used my calendar app in my cell phone to be a reminder. Therefore, cell phones can remind me that I have assignments and tests coming up. This shows that a cell phone can benefit students in the classrooms.…

School 's have safety and convenience in mind, too, but they often view the presence of cell phones as detracting from both. First, the presence of cell phones can be disruptive to the business of school. When students are engaged in texting and calling each other, it interrupts classes, creates drama that must then be sorted out by staff, and distracts students from the real reason they are in school. When cell phones inevitably go missing or are stolen, schools wind up devoting precious time dealing with the aftermath.…

A lot of people have personal things in there phone that can be a total disaster if it gets out in public. But the main issue is that having a cell phone in school can be a really big distraction.
