Benchmark: SC.912.SC.L.18.9 Understand the interrelationship of photosynthesis and cellular respiration.

Problem Statement: Does Exercise let you Breath more CO2?

Intro: Cellular respiration allows organisms to use energy stored. The materials produced are carbon dioxide and water. The body has stored away from the foods we eat in the form of glycogen, for the energy required to contract muscles movement. Lactic acid fermentation is glucose and sugars. The more energy we use the more CO2 we exhale. The Bromothymol blue and green when Presence and the more CO2 you use the color changes.

Hypothesis: I believe in this experiment the more you exercise then the more CO2 we exhale from our bodies.

Material:
2 test tubes
Water
Bromothymol Blue
Straw
Graduated Cylinder
Marking Pencil Procedures:
Pick a Lab partner
Label 2 test tubes, one A and one B
Add 10 ml of water to each test tube using a graduated cylinder
Add 8-12 drops of Bromothymol Blue to each tube
One of the pair will gently blow on the solution in the test tube A while using the other partner times it.
When the solution changes color the one timing it will “stop” and you will record your data in a table.
Now, THE SAME STUDENT WHO EXHALED INTO TEST TUBE A IS THE ONE THAT will jog in place for 2 minutes.
The timer will stay “stop” after 2 minutes and then RESET the timer
Now the student that just finished exercising will blow into the test tube B gently with a straw while the other partner times it.
The other partner will say stop when the solution has become the exact same color as is in test tube A Record the data

Independent- the Exercise
Dependent- time
Control- the test tube and Bromothymol

    To be able to carry on metabolic processes in the cell, cells need energy. The cells can obtain their energy in different ways but the most efficient way of harvesting stored food in the cell is through cellular respiration. Cellular respiration is a catabolic pathway, which breaks down large molecules to smaller molecules, produces an energy rich molecule known as ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate) and a waste product that is released as CO2.
