Celta Essay
I am an English/EFL instructor with over five years of experience in three different institutions of higher education teaching Academic English and ESP courses to high school graduates and employees in tourism sector and the tertiary sector. Prior to teaching undergraduate students full time, I have taught at different levels ranging from ABC kindergarten to adult professionals of various fields of occupation. I am in the teaching profession, regularly updating my teaching skills through attending seminars and conferences. Teaching is already my career and I do not see myself venturing into other disciplines.

I am particularly interested in the CELTA course because of the course contents, its relevance to English language teaching, the certificate recognition, perhaps better teaching positions with more challenging portfolios in the future and most of all, self-fulfilment as one could not be more satisfied with a course regulated and assessed by the University of Cambridge and conducted by its affiliates.

Pursuing the CELTA course will enable me to become a certified and internationally recognised teacher of the English Language. The CELTA qualification, widely recognised in the international field of English teaching is a definite way to meet the growing 2 billion people learning the language for reasons of their own. It is also a passport to teaching overseas coupled with travelling and developing new skills. Enhancing my chances of becoming more marketable, increasing my confidence as a teacher and providing me with a range of ideas on how to teach and not to teach English are also my reasons for engaging in the CELTA course.

I will become well versed in teaching after achieving a CELTA qualification. During the four-week course, I will be given the opportunity to take part in practical teaching practice, lasting a total of six hours. Supervision of the course instructors will give an elaborate insight into the sophisticated profession of teaching.

This assignment will give me the opportunity to explore an area of curriclum I have delivered in detail and write a crictical and reflective commentary; with reference to issues related to the development and quality of the curriclum. In doing so, I shall first identify and analyse the range of contexts in which the education and training are offered in the lifelong learning sector (LLS); explore definitions of curriclum and justify which is most applicable in my area of the curriculum; examine the theories, principles and models of curriculum design and its implementation by evaluating their impact on teaching and learning; and evaluate the significance of equality and diversity to curriculum design and demonstrate the ability to promote equality within my own practice. Finally I will critically evaluate my own practice by making proposals for improvements with reference to a range of theories, principles and modles of curriculum development relevant to the curriculum. With the introduction of the Australian National Curriculum into all education systems across the country, many questions and debates have occurred in reference to its effectiveness. From the often perceived conflicting curriculum definitions to the unfortunate failures of past attempts of curriculum implementation, every member of the community has an opinion on this significant shift in the way Australia thinks of its children’s education (Rudd, 2007). The Australian Curriculum however, has attempted to provide answers to these misgivings and societal concern, from an easy to use website interface, transparent developmental process and state/ territory inclusion of common educational individualities. The Australian Curriculums development has been that of promise and hopeful success (Brady & Kennedy, 2010).…

The roles of a teacher can be mapped closely to the teaching and learning cycle (Gravells & Simpson, 2010)and in each stage the roles are quite distinct but the overall objective of a teacher is to ensure the learner gains qualifications at a pace and learning style that is favourable to their needs. This should be achieved by abiding by the guidelines of the awarding body whilst allowing the learners to gain knowledge and skills that are invaluable for future life.…
