Censorship
Censorship is the control of information and or ideas from an individual or a group. Music, movies, books, television, mail, news, radio, art, theatre and the internet are censored. Some things that can be found though these varies things can be harmful if it gets in the wrong hands. Censorship is a good way of controlling what some people consider to be bad or offensive, and some people feel that censorship is a way that the government can control us as a society. Censorship in my opinion is needed, if these things weren’t censored then there would be a lot more crime and more cruelty to others then what is already out there, through books, media and the internet, but the main things that should never be considered for non- censorship are books, basic television and the internet. I consider censorship as a way the government can keep some of the negativity that we have in our society down. So far in my opinion censorship is working, why fix what’s not broken. Censorship of books is when some books are removed, banned or challenged from schools because of varies reasons. Banning challenging or removing books is done all over the world; I’ve seen a list of some of these banned removed and challenged books and I haven’t read most of them but I have read a few when I was in high school and now that I’m and adult and a parent I can understand why these books have been banned, removed and or even challenged ,because some of them are a little inappropriate for a for child to be reading, there are crimes in them like rapes and killing ,material that is inappropriate for a child to be reading in a classroom. In addition to book censorship there is public television censorship. You can just imagine what would be on public televisions if there were no censorship. I believe that most parents would not let their child/children watch television anymore, because there would be more nudity, more foul language, more inappropriate behavior, offensive material and racial

Although I don’t agree with most forms of censorship, I feel as if it is important in certain situations. For instance, television must be censored because all age groups watch it, and it influences younger children’s behavior because they have seen it on television. Not to mention anyone at any time can watch TV. Whereas censoring books is completely different. The reader has the option to read the book, making the author not reliable. Not just any age group can pick up a book and begin to read the content. But a six-month-old baby can sit in front of a television and be influenced by the action of a criminal. Certain things influence certain age groups and I feel as if books shouldn’t be responsible. You have to actually read a book; you cannot just sit and watch the pages. I feel as if censorship should appeal to only things that require it, and in my opinion, books do not require censorship.…

There could be many reasons why people have to need to censor, and it usually depends on the type of government a certain country has and the type of citizens they have. And by type I mean by their race, religion, what they are interested in, what they do as a career, etc. A good example of this situation could be the book “Fahrenheit 451”. Besides from comic books and pornography, every single type of books are censored, from the religious texts to the fiction chapter books. Although books are the main things that are censored from this society, but without books, many other things have changed. Things such as it is illegal to be a pedestrian because people don’t have time to drive slowly and stop for others, therefore people drive really fast and if someone is pedestrian, they could get run over.…

Censorship is a unique term. Some synonyms are suppress, eradicate, destroy. One term that the definition of censorship uses most is remove which means to “move or shift to another place or position” (Dictionary.com). Anyone can move objects such as books, utilities, etc., people can carry with their own strength, to a place where they want to put it. Censor is quite different because it can be a group or one person “who examines books, movies, etc., and removes things that are considered to be offensive, immoral, harmful to society, etc.” (Merriam-Webster). The definition of censor uses the definition of remove differently. Remove is shown to delete or erase. In the book Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, censor is shown throughout the story. Books were the enemy to the society, so…

Censorship fears dissent. When someone challenges a book they are worried by the different, and new ideas that a book can cause to be created. When different ideas are formed, now opinions form as well, and so does dissent. It is the goal of censorship to eliminate this differentiation in thought. It was precisely this censorship that Ray Bradbury was looking at when he wrote Fahrenheit 451. He looked at what would happen if all books were banned, instead of just books that people found offensive. The result was a dark and oppressive society that was devoid of any free thought and new ideas besides those created by the presiding powers that controlled the media. Bradbury was writing about the future that he saw occurring based on the increasing…

Censorship has been going on for many years. The first place that book censorship has taken place ever since people have started to write books. One of the early reasons why books are censored was because some people didn’t like the religious views of the book. In an overview by Claire Mullally called banned books she said that Plato stated “ our first business will be to supervise the making of fables and legends; rejecting all which are unsatisfactory.”(12/16/10) The is one of the biggest things that had started books to be censored. Another way people would censor books in the early ages is by burning the books in the middle of town. The people who would burn the books the most…

Books all over America are in danger. Books, objects that allow imagination and the expansion of the mind and the world around one, are often times subject to criticism and even bannings when any one person does not like the content. Books bannings should not be done whatsoever, let alone become a semi-common practice. Of course, bannings only occur after careful consideration. Or do they? Censorship is a growing problem in America, as parents and other authority figures ban various types of books in their community when content is too “edgy” or “age inappropriate”, and these are often gone through without the book so much as being opened. However, in all reality, what might be “wrong” for one child may be just right for another. Are book…

Censorship is caused when books, movies, etc. are examined, and unacceptable parts are suppressed or the whole thing is banned. Schools nationwide have been banning books due to reasons such as racial issues, sexual explicit content, religious affiliations, violence, political bias, encouragement of “damaging” lifestyles, and etc. Often it is argued that banning books protects students from being exposed to inappropriate content, while others say that students should have the freedom to read what they want.…

Censorship protects our children from seeing what could possibly damage them mentally and keeps things that should not be seen in public to stay in the shadows. Many people hate censorship because they think it takes away their freedom of speech. It doesn’t because as long as the people don’t say things that should be said they won’t be censored. Censorship stops things from being seen that shouldn’t be. Censorship is a necessity for the new…
