I actively get involved in playing various educational games with children and encourage them to learn through play or when doing art and craft activities (I also display children’s work for them and their parents to see). I listen to children’s responses when I read to them and tell them stories (to some children I translate and interpret). When doing the above I observe children’s performance and report on observations to the practitioner, and I do this at various times.…

As I referenced before my passion and the enjoyment I feel when I’m around children peaked my interest in this career field. I volunteered at an elementary school during the fall in the afternoons. In Aire Libre Elementary School the After the Bell program, kids stayed after school to do homework or get extra lessons in subjects they were struggling in. When I first started I mainly worked with first and second grader, the group was very small condensed with first and second so I interacted with each one. I made a connection with each student learning their strengths and weaknesses. I was then asked to help with one of the third grade classes as they were more rowdy and easily were distracted. The teacher allowed me to take individual groups…

I decided to become an early childhood professional because kids are simply my passion. Even though working with children may not always be easy, its still worth it. Some days can be frustrating, and we may need to go take a breather, but there’s always something in my head telling me to not give up. When I’m around kids, I feel like I forget everything that's around me, I forget what’s going on. If I arrive in a bad mood, when I sit down with a child, my mood changes. I have babysat for the past few years and my passion for kids have grown larger and larger throughout the years. I feel like since when I started this program a year ago, I've come a long way, and I’m not afraid to be silly with the kids anymore.…

Competency Goal Four: To establish positive and productive relationships with families. As an early childhood educator, I have to maintain a positive and productive relationship with the families that come into my preschool. Parents entrust me with their children all day and, I make the parents and families feel as much a part of our classroom and a part of their child’s development. To create this relationship, I work to build an open, friendly and cooperative relationship with each of the children’s family. I make sure to let my families know about my open door policy where they can come into the classroom and stay for a short period of time. A great way to get families involved is to have a volunteer sign up for each of our event at school. I find this is a great way to get my parents involved in the school to help out.…
