Nowadays, television plays an important role in our daily life and it exerts a very large influence on people, especially children. Watching television may be a kind of relaxation for children but it can result a lot of disadvantages upon children if we misuse it. There are several disadvantages of watching television for children such as it creates an addiction, causing health problems and also may encourage violence.

The first disadvantages of watching television for children is it would create an addiction. Most of the children, when they get addicted to the television shows, especially cartoons, they will automatically lose interest in all other activities of life. Generally, outdoor activities, for example, could improve their intelligence as well as social skills as it needs them to play in a team and communicate with others. Thus, children who watch too much TV will happen to lesser intelligent levels as the intelligence is the result of observing, thinking, and understanding.

Another disadvantages of watching television for children for a long period of time is that it can cause many health problems. Usually, while watching television, most of the children will eat a lot of snacks or other fast food. This is because their minds are occupied on what they are watching and the brain is slow to send message of the feeling of “fullness” as it is busy focusing on the TV which also can make them

The advantages of letting children watch TV are that if you let them watch the right kinds of shows they will learn things, like I mentioned above. If you let them watch Discovery Kids, they may get more into science and want to do experiments at home and be more excited to go to school specifically to go to science class and learn. TV can also help kids figure out what they like to do. If they see someone doing something on TV, they may want to try to do it to. For example, if the child sees someone playing football, they may want to go try out for the team. I also think a lot of it has to do with the kid’s home life. Some disadvantages could be if they have a bad home life, they may use TV as a way to escape and then they end up watching way too much TV and never doing anything else.…

In recent years, assisted suicide has become a rather controversial topic regarding whether or not a dying patient has the right to die with the assistance of a physician. While some are against it due to moral beliefs, others support it as a result of their respect for those suffering. However, physicians remain divided on the issue, being torn on the difference between relief from dying and murder. After analyzing the issue in depth, it is clear that terminally ill patients should be granted the right to assisted suicide in order to end their suffering, reduce financial burdens placed upon their families, and preserve the right of individuals to determine their own fate when facing death.…

The reaction paper is correlated to the “Taking Sides” issues, this is the 2 issue. I have chosen this topic, because I found it quite interesting and argumentative. But as I have understood part “NO” (Jib Fowles from The Case for television violence) does not provide clear opposition, but mainly criticize part “Yes” (W. James Potter form On the Media violence). Many argue that the reason of violence among teenagers and young adults in reality is about the violence shown on TV. In my reaction paper I will try to more or less clarify two points of view, give my own opinion about the topic in general and about two opposite sides. I will try to answer some questions like whether the violence on TV is harmful for younger generation or not? What impacts it has? What other influences exists? And so on.…

Television can be of general benefit to children. It can bring them into contact with aspects of life they would not otherwise become aware of. It can provide a valuable tool in the home and at school not simply to keep children occupied but also, if used appropriately, as a constructive way to use their time….Television is not a ‘one-eyed monster’ lurking impishly in the corner of the living room, kitchen or bedroom waiting to exert an evil influence over young members of the household. It is a channel through which a range of entertainment, drama and learning can be obtained and experienced and increasingly these days it is under the control of the viewer (Gunter and McAleer, 1997: xii-xiii).…
