Certified Athletic Trainer
The National Athletic Trainers Association defines a certified athletic trainer as, “An athletic trainer that encompasses the prevention, examination, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of emergent, acute or chronic injuries and medical conditions.” According to Becoming an Athletic Trainer, “Athletic Trainers (ATs) are health care professionals who collaborate with physicians to give preventive services, emergency care, clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions.” An Athletic Trainer plays a significant role in getting athletes back to a confident mental mind-set and elite performance. Athletic Trainers have a lot of responsibilities to carry out each day when dealing with different levels of training in various sports. According to SSAT Job Description, “ A few responsibilities of an Athletic Trainer is to set up an effective athletic training program for high school and middle school athletics, as well as give first aid and injury assessment/treatment/rehabilitation/reconditioning for Cary Academy student-athletes.” “The athletic trainer will also be responsible for making proper physician referral, and will give coverage at home events and practices from fall and spring seasons .” “They will also coordinate the annual required athletic physical and supervise injured athletes during the sport seasons, and keep up a line of communication with the team physician(s) on athletic health care and recommended treatment/rehabilitation for all athletic injuries.” Educational Requirements of a Certified Athletic
