Cesar Chavez: A Hispanic Leader
Cesar Chavez was the leader of a union. He dedicated his life to help the farm workers and get them their fair rights. Cesar Chavez was born on March 31, 1927, and was a labor organizer, he formed the UFW in 1965 and many farm workers joined and fought for their rights. Cesar Chavez helped many people and will always be remembered as a Hispanic leader.

Cesar went through many struggles, for example, he had to go through many white protestors that always tried taking the union down. He had to fight the government to get his money to form the union and he had to fight against the labor workers’ bosses. Cesar started off as a farm worker and he couldn’t handle the pain anymore and he wanted to fight the government, form a union and make the conditions of the farm workers reasonable. Cesar didn’t want the conditions of the labor workers to be bad, he …show more content…
Then while the donations were happening many cops showed up to his house and even the FBI went to his house to shut it all down but he didn’t really do anything wrong, he had the right to form his union and he was arrested many times for too many people out there and him trying to help the people get better conditions in their labor. Cesar didn’t come up with the idea overnight, he was a farm worker and said that he couldn’t handle the conditions that he’s working in and he wanted to put a stop to it. He went through many arrests and many searched through his house. He is a tough man and will always be remembered as one. He fought for the people, not just for him, he wanted to help the people going through the struggle he had also experienced, he understands what they were living because he too was a farm worker at one point. He reached his goal and he didn’t just stop there, he formed an organization that is still used today and many people appreciate him for

    Cesar E. Chavez, born on March 31st, 1927, was a Latino farm worker, labor leader, civil rights activist, and to this day a hero. Chavez was antiquated with prejudice and injustice from a young age. He would work part-time on the field with his parents; there he was exposed to the hardships and injustice of the farm work life. Chavez only achieved an eighth grade education due to his father getting injured. Since then he had to work full-time on the fields. Later in his life, Cesar Chavez joined the CSO, an outstanding Latino civil rights group. He became the CSO's national director; however his dream was to form an organization that protected and served migrant farm workers. He resigned in 1962. Chavez left the security of a regular paycheck and found The National Farm Workers Association (later changed to The United Farm Worker Union). He led the successful first farm worker union for more than thirty years. With his hard work he achieved respect, dignity, fair wages, medical coverage, and humane living condition as well as many more rights and forms of protection for a massive amount of migrant workers in 1975 when The California Agriculture Labor Relationships Act was passed. To this day it is the only law protecting farm workers.…

    I have found it believable that what Cesar Chavez and the UFW's actions were not only for the labor movement for the betterment of civil rights for all laborers not just Mexican Americans. He begins prefacing his commonwealth speech by giving a story about the Bracero farm workers and how they all died on a converted flatbed truck. It seems to be a tactic to touch on the listener's empathy which he then describes the living conditions for many workers. He also goes into the fact that under aged children were qualified workers, which sounds atrocious now that we have so many laws protecting against it.     The movie documentary on Cesar was very inspiring, all the fight he did just to try and make a change. He took a stand for farm workers, being exposed to pesticides and how it is harmful. Eventually some laws did pass and at the time were for the pesticides used then. He started this organization in 1962 the United Farm Workers. A month into his last fast he had lost 30 pounds, and other doctors had to come in and reexamine him for his health. His boycott against the grapes really was a long journey for him. The thing I found interesting was the masses they attended and how politicians would even show up to those masses and see what it was about. His 36th day of fasting was his last day which was a Sunday and he got to eat a little piece of bread. For a week he had to stay on fluids though before going back to eating regular food. That day many people attended the mass it was a big thing to see him come out from his fasting, but it didn’t mean he was going to stop fighting. He then later passed on in 1993 where 50,000 people had showed up and attended the funeral, it just goes to show how big of an impact and leader he was too many people. His story is truly amazing the courage he had to get things done, the motivation. He led a lot of people and was the spoke person for them all. I really liked watching the video learning more about him, which I didn’t know much about. Unfortunately there are still problems with the working conditions and farming and people are afraid to speak up.…
