It was the day in the history of America wherein the people had a great expectation of a mission that would take a civilian for the first time into the space by launched the Challenger, in 1986, but something unexpected happened when the shuttle explored shortly after liftoff and claiming the lives of all crew members onboard. That was not the only exploration of the American history, another similar disaster was the exploration of a 16 -day mission of the Columbia in 2003, when the space shuttle broke apart while re-entering the atmosphere over Texas and killing all seven crew members onboard. The disaster occurred minutes before Columbia was scheduled to land at Florida’s Kennedy Space Center. The first debris began falling to the ground in West Texas. One minute later, the last communication from the crew was heard and disconnected. The two men who were fishing at the lake in South Texas area, heard a loud boom and saw lines of smoke in the sky. Debris were found in more than 2,000 locations across Texas and Louisiana. The causes of Challenger and Columbia disasters happed because of lack of management and communication. These disasters could not happen if NASA pay attentions on the warning of O-rings manufacturer of Challenger and the concern of the Columbia’s wing should be address while they were spending 2 weeks in orbit. The causes have huge effect of disaster, the Challenger and Columbia’s legacy will not be forgotten. The Space Shuttle program will always be the remembered for the marvelous contribution it gave to the development of the United States space
