The Challenger Space Shuttle exploded seventy three seconds after liftoff.
All the crew on board died on January 28, 1986, all of America was in shock. How and why did it happen. Roger Bogilay told NASA the the o'rings on the shuttle would not seal right in the extreme cold. NASA previously delayed the launch six times before liftoff. At liftoff black smoke came out of the right engine booster for two seconds due to the oring being burned . Then at 10,000 feet the shuttle experienced turbulence. That's when the crew cabin was dislodged and a millisecond late the challenger exploded. The Challenger's crew, memorial and, aftermath. The Challenger had a crew of seven and one of them
was a teacher Christa Mcauliffe. There is a memorial in Arlington National Cemetery. Some of the debris is are still coming to shore today. The permanent resting place for all the debris is two abandoned missile silos. The silos will be covered in five foot thick concrete. They are off limits to the public. The 5000 pieces of debris weighed a quarter of a million pounds. The search for the crew cabin went on for six weeks. Soon after the crew’s family gathered at Kennedy Space Center (KSC) . The unidentified body parts were cremated and placed in the Arlington National Cemetery. Forever Remembered is now an exhibit in KSC. The Challenger Shuttle had other missions. The Challenger had the first untethered space walk, atomic oxygen, and eight people at once for the first and only time. Challenger Flew the first woman into space, repared solar maxis, and helped build the space station. The shuttle orbited the earth eighty one times which is 2,094,293 miles. The Challenger also had a four hour seventeen minute space walk.

How Christa Mcauliffe's life changed. Christa was a highschool teacher in Concord New Hampshire, she was thirty seven and mother of two. Christa was selected out of 50,000 participants. Christa was on the tonight show and said, “Yes I mean Space travel today seems pretty safe.”
If the Challenger didn't explode Christa was going to teach two lessons from space and take a tour of the space shuttle. Astronaut Jarvis was going to study liquids in space.
