Challenges Of USA Today
Some of the challenges that USA Today have been facing include staying relevant in a more technological environment and finding a target audience that no other newspaper had tapped into. The newspaper also took the time to do surveys to see what needed to be improved and managed to create a newspaper that was quick and to the point without all the excess that was of no interest to their target audience. Another challenge that Neuharth had to face was being considered as a serious newspaper with important information and not just trivial junk. It has become more connected with international incidents and sports as well. Consequently changing the initial feelings of its critics. Macartney states “USA Today already has established an enviable,
and deserved, reputation for an ability to provide late sports scores.”
USA has also managed to target an audience that was untouched by other newspaper. This audience is the business traveler. By changing the size of the paper, it became easier to read on planes and place in small compartments making it accessible. The fast turn around time of the latest news also allowed it to be one of the top newspapers nationally. Its switch to online managed to increase its readers and target a younger audience who were more apt to use technological devices as opposed to traditional newspaper or radio for national news.
