Rationale
My topic I have chosen is the rugby union community. Rugby is mainly what my life is about at this moment in time. I play in five different teams, train in a selective squad in the off-season, it is something I am very passionate about and I would considerate as my community. As I’m growing up, I’m realising that the number of kids playing in the older ages is dropping and that is what I have chosen as my topic.
Aim
For my fieldwork I’m going to be researching about why the number of kids playing in the rugby community drops during the ages 14 to 18 in the north shore region.
Hypothesis
The reason why the number of kids playing rugby in the ages from 14 to 18 is because some children don’t grow as much and are getting hurt, club rugby isn’t compulsory to play for representative teams, time consuming and school becomes more of a priority.
Methodology …show more content…
How I intend to conduct my research is through a survey and on the Internet. I will survey people in my team, which are leaving the club, about why they are leaving and their main and secondary reason. On in Internet I will use the Buddha website, which is the official junior nsw rugby site, for evidence of decreasing numbers in ages 14-18.
Results
I interviewed a few of club rugby players at presentation day if they were continue rugby next year and also some of the Knox rugby guys that played club rugby. For those who chose to continue I didn’t ask why.

I research on the Buddha website and had a look through all the spreadsheets of the ages 12 and 16 to see the difference between the amount of teams they had in each. In the twelve-year-old age group there are four divisions and eight teams in each. That’s a estimated total of 660 players in the North Shore Zone, and in the sixteens there is one division of 15 teams; an approx. total of 300 players.
Discussion
In my hypothesis I stated a range of reasons why there might have been a declination of players in club rugby but the main reason seem too be that school became to much of a priority.
There wad still a minority that had different reasons for quitting rugby and that might be because of skill level, passion for the sport, other commitments but of course it would vary from person to person. This dropped of more than 50% from the 12s to the 16s of rugby players is due to all these different reasons and factors.
Conclusion
In my hypothesis I didn’t give a specific answer to my question but gave a range of answer and I did prove that the most common reason was due to school and disproved the other reasons.
Self-Evaluation
It was very easy to collect my data. I did it at lunchtime and just went around to everyone who played club rugby to see if they were going to play club next year and if they weren’t then to record their reason why. Also at my final presentation day I did the same just with a different sort of group.
