How does camouflage help the chameleon catch insects?
The camouflage on the chameleon helps get close to prey without being spotted. The camouflage colour helps the chameleon blend in with the background to sneak up on the chameleon’s prey. The long tongue with a sticky lump at the end that it launches to catch insects.

How does camouflage help protect the chameleon from predators?
Not only does it camouflage to consume food but also to protect itself. The chameleon helps it protect itself by camouflaging, this informs other animals that this is not an animal.
What other animals can you think of that use camouflage for protection or to hide from prey?

No it doesn’t because when a bird is born it would try to eat the monarch so every new born bird eats a butterfly. If this did not occur there would be over population of the monarch butterflies. The bird that eat also knows that the bright patterns on their wings don’t make them fierce.

There are not many differences between the monarch and the viceroy butterflies. The only difference between the two kinds of butterflies are the viceroy butterfly doesn’t release a chemical that tastes bitter.
Other Disguises:
Why would bird avoid animals that have large eyes in the front?
The predator will think that the animal is very fierce and scary so they wouldn’t try to attack the prey. The prey also might fool the predator to think the butterfly is something else. They also might think that the might get eaten by the animal that they the butterfly is it.

Animals fight for survival daily, and sometimes their lives depend on their ability to adapt with their surrounding environments. Natural Selection is the process in which individuals have certain traits that allow them to survive and produce more efficiently (Reece et al.456). The animals that inherit these important traits have a higher fitness; therefore, those without the traits have a lower fitness (Reece et al.456). One example of natural selection is the differences between American Alligator and Albino alligator. The American Alligator acquired dark, thick skin due to the swampy, wet marshlands they live in ("American Alligator." Aquatic Community. AC Tropical Fish and Aquarium. Web. 21 Feb 2013.). It has a higher fitness than the Albino Alligator because their pigment not only hides them from predators, but also gives them an upper hand when sneaking up on prey while hunting ("American Alligator." Aquatic Community. AC Tropical Fish and Aquarium. Web. 21 Feb. 2013.). On the other hand, the Albino Alligator has a much lower fitness and is very rare because it does not have the allele that produces the pigment that has dark skin. The white color stands out like a sore thumb in its dark environment ("White alligator is one of the rarest in the world." Telegraph Media Group. 16 Feb 2009: n. page. Web. 21 Feb. 2013.).…

Cuttlefish skin is composed of three layers that have up to 200 pigment cells called chromatophores per square millimeter. The first and deepest skin layer is white in color to act as a light retracting base for the other layers. The middle layer produces blue, red, green, orange and even pink through the iridescent light reflecting cells inside the skin. The outer most layer consists of pigment cells that are like tiny disks of color which are too small to see. The layers of specialized skin also contain tiny plates of the protein chitin, called Iridophores, which are responsible for the light reflection. Cuttlefish camouflage is impressive not only because of the speed at which these animals can change patterns and colors but also because their camouflage is apparently very effective at deceiving the visual capabilities of their varied…

Moths that fly by day are not properly to be called moths; they do not excite that pleasant sense of dark autumn nights and ivy-blossom which the commonest yel- low-underwing asleep in the shadow of the curtain never fails to rouse in us. They are hybrid creatures, neither gay like butterflies nor somber like their own species. Nevertheless the present specimen, with his narrow hay-colored wings, fringed with a tassel of the same color, seemed to be content with life. It was a pleasant morning, mid-September, mild, benignant, yet with a keener breath than that of the summer months. The plough was already scoring the field oppo- site the window, and where the share had been, the earth was pressed flat and gleamed with moisture. Such vigor came rolling in from the fields and the down beyond that it was difficult to keep the eyes strictly turned upon the book. The rooks too were keeping one of their annual festivities; soaring round the tree tops until it looked as if a vast net with thousands of black knots in it had been cast up into the air; which, after a few moments sank slowly down upon the trees until every twig seemed to have a knot at the end of it. Then, suddenly, the net would be thrown into the air again in a wider circle this time, with the utmost clamor and vociferation, as though to be thrown into the air and settle slowly down upon the tree tops were a tremendously exciting experience.…

In life, we have heard the phrase “only the strongest will survive”, and undoubtedly, think of the strength of a lion or the ferociousness of a bear, but this is not always the case to being a dominant species in a community. In this lab, we will explore the theory of natural selection, or as Charles Darwin put it, “Survival of the fittest” (King et al, 1-14). Through this concept, we will come to the understanding that being the fittest is not about being the strongest or most cunning, but simple having the best attributes to survive in a specific environment. For example, would a lion or a camel be the dominant race in the Sahara desert? The answer is the camel; even though the lion surpasses it in almost every aspect, the camel has the specific characteristic of conserving water which was acquired through the process of evolution. This processes essentially means, that the camel is the product of many generations of organisms reproducing and dyeing to successfully survive in their environment. To test the theory of natural selection theory through means of prey and predation, we will brooch the specific trait of camouflage. That is, if the color of the prey is not consistent with the natural habitat, than the prey will experience increased selection pressure; effectively decreasing the chance of surviving natural selection or predation.…
