Changing The Past In The Twilight Zone Episode 'Walking Distance'
Changing The Past
If you had the chance to go back in time and change your childhood, would you? What would you change? In the Twilight Zone episode “Walking distance” Martin Sloan unknowingly had this opportunity. When Martin stopped for gas he noticed the town he grew up in, curious about it he went into town. Soon Martin realized he was in a different time period, the time of his childhood. Once Martin realized he was back in 1932 a time period where he was only eleven, he tries confronting his parents tell them that he was Martin from the future; however, he only got the door slammed in his face. Soon Robert Sloan, Martin’s dad finds out that the older gentleman is really Martin and warns him of what could happen if he stays around. Once Martin finally finds his younger self on the merry-go-round he tries to confront the eleven year old; however, he

Earlier in the episode Robert Sloan tells Martin “I don’t want to hurt you, I don’t want you to get in trouble, but if you hang around here, there may be trouble”. Unfortunately, Martin did not listen and ended up with a lifelong limp from just changing one event in his past. Even though Robert did not know what could happen if he stayed in town he knew it wouldn’t be good, because you can’t change your past. No matter how appealing it sounds to go back in time to change something in your childhood its probably not smart, because it could possibly make things worse, like it did for Martin. It could possibly make thing better too however, there is no real way of telling. With Martin altering his past and causing a lifelong limp there might be events the younger Martin had to miss because he had a broken leg. There are reasons we cannot time travel it will only make things worse whether it for you or for someone else there will always be

One of the choices I made would be to be a more caring and helpful person. I was always both caring and helpful, but just sometimes and to certain people. I really like helping people and caring for them, I know it makes them happy, so it makes me happy. Even though I have a lot going on in my life, I like to be a caring person; it helps everyone out a little bit. If I could tell everyone in the world one thing, it would be: “Do things to your best ability and help those that need help, or a…

Honestly, I would’ve wanted the childhood of the author Wes Moore even though it was difficult in the beginning but at the end, it was wealthy. Wes states, “The irony of the situation forced me to smile, featuring my newly cracked tooth. Years earlier, I had run through these same woods with all of my might, looking for safety, trying to get away from campus. Tonight, I ran through the same woods looking for safety, but in the other direction," (Moore, 122). Here we can see how his life was changed drastically and makes me want to have his childhood since I know I would have been able to do anything without stopping! Lastly, I wouldn’t want to have the same childhood as the other Wes because he never really cared about his education or his life. Also, he later on ended up in prison for making the bad decisions and he knew that he his life was going to spend in prison; “ ‘You committed an act like something out of the Wild West, and you didn't even realize how outrageous it was, the judge said’. That makes you a very dangerous person’ “(Moore, 157). Sounds like Jeannette and both Wes had crazy…

I relate to this story very well. I am sort of like Tom where I like to go out and have fun, but somehow get in trouble. I don’t know if I would go and steal gold coins, although it might be enjoyable. I think it would be fun going out with friends and stirring up trouble. It would also be great if I could get someone to do my chores and work for me. Tom seems like he has so much fun on his adventures, even though he does some things he is not supposed to do. Tom and I are sort of alike, we both hate school just want to sit outside or go on adventures. I also would like to live back in his day, no TV, internet, not even a phone your entertainment is going around the town. Back in those days you would have no fear of robbers or even murders,…

After Marty gets sent back to 1955 he meets Dr. Emmet Brown when he was a little younger. When Marty tries to go back to the present time he can’t because he needs 14,000 gigawatts in order for the time machine to work. Doc tries to help fix the time machine to get Marty back to his time so he doesn’t mess up the past, which could alter the future. Marty then meets his future dad at the dinner where his dad is getting bullied by Biff, so “Marty tries to intervene and help him, which was a bad idea because then he had to try and escape from Biff or he would have then again gotten bullied for not thinking before doing something” (BTTF I). Luckily Marty gets away safely and his dad, McFly, is okay as well. This is the first place where Marty’s future mom first saw him for the first time and she thought he was hot, thus causing Loraine, his mom, to fall for him instead of McFly. Scene by scene everything is just…

My essay will consist of a highly popular time travel paradox called “The Grandfather Paradox”, which essentially discuses how an individual can travel back in time to prevent a pre conditioned event from occurring. This paradox discus how an individual can travel back in time to kill their grandfather, therefore grandpa never meets grandma which leads to the individual to never to be born, he essential commits an accident suicide, meaning that the individual really never killed grandfather in the first place. Such paradox then leads to the controversy with time travel because many believe it is highly possible but this paradox shows how it can’t be possible. The reasoning being is because the individual essentially goes back in time when they…
