Chapter 12: A Case Study Of Schizophrenia

Chapter 12 was interesting to read. The amount of information I gained on Schozophrenia was large. I was however shocked by the amount of drugs available to treat this problem. I think that this is great for anyone suffering from the disease because what works for some may not work for the next. I work in a hospital and often times we run into the case where the person will have a reaction to a medication and need to switch. We often time see the side effect of the medications and then are forced to switch them to another one. The knowledge that they have multiple different drugs to choose from allows them to trial and error what is best for them.
Chapter 13 touched on many personality disorders that we hear of each day but went into
detail on the causes of them which I enjoyed. I didn’t realize what all can be considered a “Dramatic” personality disorder. I absolutely love the TV series Dexter and have watched the entire series so I was aware of his anti-social personality. I thought our group discussion really hit narcissistic behaviors really well. I think that this is been a growing problem among society with social media and looks. I do think that there will be more research done to better help those with this problem because I don’t think medication is the answer. I liked touching on OCD. I think I have some serious OCD personality traits and I don’t think that will change anytime soon. I do think people are more aware of this personality disorder than others just because of the amount of talk done on it as well as media presence.
