Chapter 24 Painted By Diego Velazquez

My favorite work of art in chapter 12 is a work of art in page 367. Figure 12.24 Painted by Diego Velazquez in 1665. The style of the scene looks very realistic and it also shows the conceptual sense of the Spanish Monarch Family. The large size 10’5” X 9’ size of the painting implies status; this is because at that time only wealthy could afford the possession of such large painting. We could see the Diego in the picture as he is holding the paint brush in his hand and looking at the viewer. In addition to, there is motion in this painting, as the maids are waiting for the Infanta Margarita. The space in the picture in deep as we could see the image of King and Queen in the back. Moreover, the size of the painting gives ideology of high
rank of the Royal’s status. The positive parts of the painting are the Infanta Margarita as she is standing in the middle of the painting and looking forward. Other parts of the painting that are negative are the upper part in which you could barely see the ceiling. The theme of the painting is showing their royalty by the presence of the maids, the two dwarf, and two adult chaperones.
