For real group communication to occur, there must be more then turn-taking communication.

Space refers to the location of interaction
Face-to-face communication must occur for a collection of people to become a small group.
But, the emergence of new technologies has changed this definition; teleconferencing regularly occurs in business life and group members in different places.
