One thing I have to be aware of is the power that comes with being a leader and how it involves behavior management. An effective leader has to understand the power one possesses and do right by it. Participants will envy the power I have not because I am abusing it but because the power is there. In certain situations when I am giving out commands some people can take it the wrong way and begin to disregard. This technique targets one’s emotions and feelings about many behavioral issues. When dealing with a behavior problem a leader may use active listening, giving the person an opportunity to explain their issue, frustration, or problem. The end result is to found a common ground to eliminate such issues from recurring.
Motivation is a big factor involved with behavior management. A leader should be able to motivate a participant, this will lead to fewer behavior problems. Everyone is motivated in some shape or form. Motivation can come from internal or external factors, people may experience multiple motivations at one time. While understanding that people’s behavior are affected by their level of motivation. For example, somebody that is not really interested in school will act out because he or she does not like the environment and has little to no investment in their education.
This chapter provided great information all around. Becoming familiar with behavior management is very beneficial in my progression as an individual and leader. I learned various techniques to behave accordingly plus help others. I feel prepared to lead by example and motivate other to do great
