Initial Questions about Passages and Chapters
The following questions take you from page 1 of the novel to the very end. These questions focus your attention on key events in the plot, on certain digressions in the story, on certain characters (especially Christopher), on the book’s style, on some of the book’s dialogue, and on important interactions between Christopher and others.
Choose 10 questions. Answer each of those questions in 1-2 paragraphs per answer. Write in full and proper sentences, not dot points (even though they are used here to clarify what you are to do)
Make sure you clearly number and/or include the question that you are answering.
1. Read the first paragraph of the novel (p.1).
• What do you learn about Christopher by reading this passage?
• What do you learn about what is important to him?
• How does he see things?
• In which ways might he be different from you and which ways the same?
• What kind of narrative style characterizes this passage?
It is quite apparent by this paragraph that Christopher thinks very differently to a ‘normal person’. This is shown by the way he spoke in the book. For example, the sentences he used where very simple and straight forward, however did not leave a detail untouched. This is unlike to other books where generally the person thoughts and emotions are hidden, and are left to the reader’s imagination However, throughout this paragraph, Christopher very clearly stated how he felt as well as what he saw, although he did this very simply. An example of this is when he first discovered the body of the dog:

2. Why does Christopher tear up the piece of paper that Siobhan has drawn for him (p.3)?
Christopher tore up the picture that Siobhan drew for him as he did not like Siobhan laughing at him after he told her that he used the pictures to figure out what people are feeling. I also a factor in
