Chapter Summary: The Giver
Jonas
The amazing ride down the hill was over. Jonas was left in the cold and harsh wind again. However Jonas felt a lot warmer than he did before, because of what he is seeing, and what he knew he had accomplished. Ahead of him were houses decorated with the colors red, green and gold. “It’s the place where I learned love”, Jonas thought. The thought of the Giver made him tear up a little. “I wish he would have came with me” Jonas said to Gabriel as he started walking towards the house. “He would have loved this scene”, Jonas whispered remembering that this was the Giver’s favorite memory. As Jonas approached the house he could hear the high pitched laughing sounds that came from a girl about the age of Lily; and the deep jolly sound coming

A tear trickled down his cheek onto his pillowcase,as he thought about Jonas, “thank you” he whispered quietly to himself, “thank you, Jonas”. The next morning, Jonas parents found out Jonas and Gabriel were missing and had report it to the elders that morning. The elders send people out in the woods to search for Jonas and Gabriel. After a day with no success, the elders started sending search planes out. The elders stopped sending search planes out when the memories came back to them. Little by little the memories of happiness, pain, joy, hunger, war was entering the people's heads. Just as Jonas and the Giver thought, the people went crazy. The elders wanted to pick an another receiver but there was no time and no one ready, so the only thing they could do was speed up the process. The Giver suggested that he could go house to house helping the community members through their pain and the elders agreed because it was their only choice. As the days passed the community members were forced to get use to the pieces of the memories coming back. Some had taken it better than others and some had been in pain for days because of one memory. The Giver was very needed in all the family units and was very tired each day, but the community was getting better. Asher and Fiona finally understood what Jonas was feeling and felt truly sorry (now they know what feelings were).
