My essay describes my one-draft writing process that has the advantage of minimal writing time, but also the disadvantage of procrastinating due to the short time needed to finish. Throughout my essay I argue that students often use excuses such as, "I work better and more creative under pressure," which leads to procrastination and unhealthy effects on the body. In my essay I provide ways in which students can avoid procrastination and improve their writing.…
After reading through chapter 7 of the Practiced Writer by Kevin Caliendo I have chosen the topic Cropping. The author has very well gotten the point across on this topic first by thoroughly explaining and making sure the reader knew the true meaning of what the word cropping meant. The author does an excellent job of persuasive rhetoric, she simply persuades the readers with the use of cropping by informing them that it would be as if the person was looking at the photograph under a microscope. The author also persuades by letting the readers know that when a person crops a photo it allows them to add multiple different features to the photograph as well as focus on a certain spot of a photo. In argumentative rhetoric the author simply implies…

Chapter 2 of The New Jim Crow focuses on how the system of mass incarceration works. Alexander concentrates on the "War on Drugs," because "convictions for drug offenses are the single most important cause of the explosion in incarceration rates in the United States." Early on, she exposes myths, noting that the war is not "aimed at ridding the nation of drug 'kingpins' or big-time drug dealers," and the drug war is not "principally concerned with dangerous drugs" (60).…

I had 4 memoirs left to write for the following day and annoyed with myself I began to spill words onto Microsoft word compromising the quality of my work to simply get it done. Never had I felt so abashed by my procrastination. Maybe it was because this time was different. This time I didn’t even know I was procrastinating. Humans are creatures of habit however, and that’s why I find this experience to be somewhat comical.…
In the book titled, Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott, she describes different techniques in how she goes about writing. Lamott mentions how much she procrastinates before writing drafts because sometimes panic sets in and also how her mind wanders at times. For example, she states that “I think about someone I’m really annoyed with, or some financial problem that is driving me crazy, and decide that I must resolve this before I get down to today’s work” (17). Although I do not write all that often, if I have a task at hand that is due in a timely fashion, I find that I too will procrastinate before getting to that task. I actually have done so in this first assignment. Feeling uncertain on whether or not I am doing this correctly is a reason I believe…
The art of procrastination has troubled high school kids for quite some time now. Im sitting here typing my own essay at the eleventh hour, hoping that as the deadline approaches I can piece together an essay to save my grade. “Procrastination is for the efficient at heart”, this quote captures the procrastinators only strength: the ability to make the most out of the time they have. Most students will crack as the pressure of meeting the deadline with quality work overbears them, as they regretfully wish they spent their time wiser. Few will rise up to the challenge and meet the standards, but what separates the students who succeed and those who miserably fail?…
Procrastination has become such a bad habit for me. It is hard for me to stop procrastinating. I believe I do my best writing at the last minute. I usually wait until the night before to do most of it. I am usually up late the night before the paper is due. Having things due dates has kept me on task, and keeps me from procrastinating until the day before the paper is due. There was one paper which we had to get sources for a while before the paper was due and it forced me to keep up with the paper, rather than let it go to the last minute. This class has taught me that the earlier you start the more positive your result will be. That was my mistake with the argumentative paper.…
I have sinned almost every single day of my college career. As a matter of fact I am sinning as I write this paper. According to Thomas Benton’s article “The 7 Deadly Sins of Students” one of the sins that many college students commit is being a “sloth”, as they postpone doing their assignments until last possible second, leaving no time to reflect or learn from them. I am a “sloth”. I have had over a week to start this paper and I have held it off until the night before, as I have done with almost all my assignments this semester, leaving me feeling stressed and overwhelmed with classes.…
A lack of patience is the main reason I have trouble with writing. Before college, I was unwilling to put a significant amount of time into truly understanding a topic, forming a credible standpoint, and editing the paper. Nonetheless, it was important for me to complete the writing assignments to have a grasp of writing skills. Although writing has played a significant role in my education up to this point, it will not necessarily be an important part in my career choice of nursing.…
I can personally relate to all four. When writing an assignment, I tend to use filler words, ramble on irrelevant topics, overanalyze, and procrastinate. Though I do finish the assignment to the best of my ability, I always end up wondering to myself whether or not I could have done…
Throughout Kindergarten until roughly 9th grade, my parents were always complimented by my teachers on how well I could distract other students. Each teacher had a different “discipline” method. Interestingly enough, they all had one trait in common, writing. Writing “I will not ______” hundreds of times. Writing all the “A” words in the dictionary and their definitions until my hour detention was up. My all-time favorite was when I would have to copy random papers my teacher would give me, which in no way shape or form benefited me at all. Another common trait all these “discipline” methods had in common was that they all pushed me away from what little interest I had in reading and writing at the same time. Some might refer to this as a double play but in this case it was for the other team. Now every time I sit down and am told to write an essay or a paper, I cringe. My reaction is to now to hate and dread the work now given to me. Math, I excel in because it interests me because in my mind its one big puzzle. English is now the place I go to have my hand cramp and for me to be criticized on how my writing is sub-par.…
Overall, as far as I concerned that writers’ ways to solve procrastination are good for these people. You can find the reason why you are a procrastination person, and use writers’ ways to solve it that you can become a better…
According to Lou Holtz “Ability is what you’re capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it.” I dread writing, whether it is academic or not. Whenever I pick up a pen to starts writing something, I get queasy. For example, the worst punishment someone can ever give me is a writing assignment. It has been like that ever since I learned how to write. The three main reasons I hate writing is because it has been a challenge for me, I lack confidence in my own potential, and I find it very hard to express my thoughts on paper.…
