A separate peace is finding peace in one's own self. The innocence of Gene, Finny, and Leper will be obliterated so they can achieve peace. Growing to adulthood forces them to ether choose evolve or perish. “They were preparing it, if you see what I mean, for the future. Everything has to evolve or else it perishes.” (Knowles 125).
