Captain Black

-Captain Black is a naturally mean person who enjoys causing mental pain and anguish to others. Nately describes Captain Black the most negatively.
-Heller doesn’t reveal what he was doing before the war.
-Captain Black acts as the intelligence officer during the war. This means that he is supposed to be “more intelligent than anyone else in the squadron”. It is hard to tell if Captain Black is successful in this, but more than likely he is not because he ultimately fails to become a major.

The Book of Negroes is a six-part drama relating an African woman's pursuit for freedom after years of enslavement. It views historical events and the sins of slavery through a representative and often sobering lens but have a habit of focusing on the main character's strength and resilience rather than on the terrors of her fights. You'll see fierce performances such as assaults, murders, and thumping with some bloodshed, along with pretend sex (including implicit rapes). You also hear the use of "N" word throughout the series I give it an 8/10. My ranking would have been higher if season 1 was a bit longer.…

In The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn Mark Twain's characters play an intricate roll in the literary structure of the book. They come into Huck and Jim's life almost like the changing wind, and changed their characters indefinitely. The character that I found interesting was Colonel Sherburn who is the owner of the largest store in a town that Huck happens upon.…

The only African-American pilots in combat within the Army Air Forces during World War II believed they had something to prove. They knew that if they performed well in battle, the decision to accept them in a role from which they had previously been excluded would be vindicated. Excellent combat performance would also contribute to expanding opportunities for African Americans, not only in the armed forces of the United States, but in American society as a whole.…

In Ralph Ellison’s, “Battle Royal” the protagonist is the narrator and the main character. He delivers the story to the reader in the form of a first person narrative. The narrator although black perceives himself as better than those of his race. His personality and the attitudes he exudes is exceedingly confident, blatantly arrogant and prideful. The reader is aware of this elevated sense of pride by observing the narrator’s actions/interactions with others and his thoughts.…

According to New York Time’s Review, the film Captain Blood “provided a properly picturesque background for Dr. Blood's piratical career, as the Warner Brothers skillfully reconstruct the England of the sanguinary Monmouth uprising, the West Indies of tortured slaves and savage masters, and the ships that sailed the Spanish Main flying the jolly roger”. On the other hand, a masculine and heroic protagonist along side with a beautiful and delicate love interest is definitely an iconography of adventure films during the time. Adventure films were intended to appeal mainly to men, creating major male heroic stars through the years. These courageous, patriotic, or altruistic heroes often fought for their beliefs, struggled for freedom, or overcame injustice.…

Royall Tyler’s play is called The Contrast because it focuses on the differences between Americans and Europeans and the contrast between upper class society and lower class society for example, fashion, mannerisms, and lingo. The play introduces Jonathan as Colonel Manly’s Yankee waiter during the war. Jonathan’s way of thinking, his language, and his fashion sense emulates that of his master, Colonel Manly. Both Col. Manly and Jonathan appear to be a more humble nature with little regard to their fashion sense. Jonathan very simple with regard to his lingo and lack of knowledge of the bigger cities. While in the mall, Jonathan meets Jessamy, Mr. Dimple’s servant. In contrast to Jonathan, Jessamy’s style reflects that of his master. Jessamy is very well dressed, educated on the…

Krakauer wrote that Chris McCandless was, "green, and he overestimated his resilience, but was sufficiently skilled to last for sixteen weeks on a little more than his wits and ten pounds of rice"(Krakauer 182). In this quote it seems that Krakauer thought that McCandless was well equipped with his skills, so that made moderately prepared to survive in any situation. I feel that McCandless was rather prepared, yet again he never could have been fully prepared for the unexpected. My opinion is that McCandless was vaguely aware of the struggles that he would encounter in the Alaskan wilderness such as his epiphany that "happiness is only real when shared" was realized when his body was dying of starvation. I believed that he found what he was…
