Adnan Syed, the main character in Serial, has wrongfully spent the majority of his adult life in prison. He was accused of murdering Hae-Min Lee, his ex-girlfriend, in the first degree after her body was found February 9th, 1999, buried in Leakin Park. Witnesses and friends have provided authorities with varying stories on the matter, but authorities have yet to confirm or deny Adnan’s innocence… until now. Adnan did not commit the murder, and here’s why. To start, Jay’s description of Hae’s murder is made up, and there is major evidence that supports this theory. Secondly, there is evidence that Jay has been using Adnan’s cellphone records to create a foundation for his own story. As well as Jay lying, evidence has been found to support Adnan, as witnesses and other evidence put Adnan at the mosque the night of the murder, and at track during the time of the murder. Even using Adnan’s calling records and producing the final story that was used at the trial, Jay’s story consisted of events that could not have happened. Jay’s final story claims Adnan called Jay from a pay phone at 2:36 PM, saying he had just killed Hae and that he needed a ride. It was later revealed that there is no existing payphone at Best Buy. Also, at the trial, Jay claims that Hae was killed in a Best Buy parking lot just before he made the call at the payphone, but many witnesses in episode 9 put Hae at school during this time.
