Fahrenheit 451 is a novel inanimate objects that serve important purposes that tie to the theme of the book. Fire is one of many inanimate objects in this novel. At the beginning fires purpose is destruction to destroy the outlawed books from people in this society. Then it brings the firemen pleasure when the burn stuff by seeing it turn dark brown and then black, from perfectly fine to ashes. Then at the end it brings Montog comfort and warmth when he was running from the hound.…
Think of the word "fire". What's the first thing that comes to mind? To some it's s'mores, to others it's destruction. For Montag Fire was a tool for his profession; "It was a pleasure to burn. It was a special pleasure to see things eaten, to see things blackened and changed." This line was found in the beginning of a Fahrenheit 451. Montag was in charge of burning the books that were found, but throughout the movie his understanding of fire changed.…
Love, loyalty, trustworthiness, friendship, and compassion - all these traits describe what is needed to have a healthy and close relationship If a marriage does not have these qualities then there will be conflict and strife. Fire is often described as being destructive, ruinous, and catastrophic. It is a natural resource that can be used and interpreted in many ways. As for Ray Bradbury, author of the dystopian novel, Fahrenheit 451; Fire can be a positive and negative symbol. Bradbury begins his novel by using fire as a symbol for destruction and demolition of a society that has been primarily cultivated through books and historical writings. As the novel progresses, fire becomes a symbol for rejuvenation for the dystopian…
As a student working alongside Gardening the Community, I was excited about this Food, Work and Social Justice panel. This panel contained three individuals who have careers based around educating the community about food justice. Natalie Penniman, is a food justice educator and activist who works on Soul Fire Farm in New York. Soul Fire faem has a committeed relationshop to its community by providing high quality food and fresh produce every week. Sixo stopped speaking English to keep his dignity. He thought that since English had no future, that he could continue speaking his native language so that he can always have a piece of him to keep. Sixo used to speak English in the beginning of chapter 2; along with being gentle. The description of his flame-red tongue foreshadows his horrible death. His skin color was described as an indigo color, which contrasts with his tongue significantly. “Indigo with a flame-red tongue…” (Morrison 25) Later in the book it shows how sixo also talks very uniquely, and that this weird description of his tongue foreshadows how his future will involve his speech. He later finds that speaking English has no future so he goes back to his native tongue, and…
While reading the novel, 'My Antonia', one can very quickly notice that author, Willa Cather has much admiration for the character, Antonia. In Legend by Marie Lu, the author uses characterization to explain how June might believe that Thomas had murdered her brother instead of Day like she had previously believed. At this point in the story June is looking through the case file of Metias, her brother’s death. She looks at the poorly taken crime scene photos of his dead body and notices some marks on the knife’s hilt. Looking at the photos more in depth, she sees marks that are not blood. Instead they are black, thick, and have texture to them. The text states, “These black marks look like rifle grease. Almost like the streak of grease that was on Thomas’s forehead when I first saw him that night” (Lu 226). This reveals how June might now…

“I just really don’t like being the center of attention that much. It’s kind of ironic.” Whether it means giving a speech in front of an audience or dancing on a stage, no one likes it. However, in the novel, The Flamingo Rising, Larry Baker introduces Louise, a different type of person that will do anything to be the center of attention. In Larry Baker’s novel, Louise and her brother, Abraham Isaac, start their first day at school at the age of twelve. Louise’s limp becomes obvious because she is nervous. As the class stares at her, she overcomes this nervousness and takes control of the situation. In the novel, The Flamingo Rising, Larry Baker clearly shows that Louise’s identity is created more by the environment than by the individual. One can see this through her desire to be the center of attention.…
The angular shapes and colors used in the picture shown by the fire are used to provoke the emotions of alarm, agitation, and confusion. Fire already suggest so many emotions however if the fire was curved or little in size we would not feel the danger that one gets when looking at this picture. The fact that not many different colors are used helps to keep the focus on the main action of the picture. The only vivid colors in this picture are the blue color of the…
In the book Fangirl, I would put a character named David. He would be 19 years old, with dark-colored shaggy hair like a stereotypical surfer. David would be everything Cath wasn't. He would be bold, and extroverted, while Cath, the main character, is shy and can be very introverted. David would be interested in Cath's fanfiction, a story with characters that are already created but put into a different plot, about her favorite book series Simon Snow. David would be the one person who helped Cath get through her family problems and restore her relationship with her mom.…
In The Lightning Theif, a novel by Rick Riordan and in The Sword in the Stone, a novel by T. H. White, both of the main characters face some sort of life altering conflict which leads them to change and grow over a period of time. In The Lightning Thief the main character, Percy Jackson, discovers that he is the son of the god Poseidon, and must go on a quest to prove his innocence when he is accused of stealing Zeus’s master lightning bolt. In The Sword and the Stone the main character, called the Wart, must be tutored by an elderly wizard named Merlin, as requested by his adoptive father Sir Ector. Both Percy and Arthur (the Wart) go on their own individual journeys of self discovery which lead them to grow as people and become better versions…
Florante and Laura are the main characters of the great metrical romance of arguably the greatest Filipino poet, Francisco Balagtas. Florante is the son of Duke Briseo and Princess Floresca of Albania and the main protagonist of the romance. Laura is the daughter of King Linceo of Albania and the love interest of Florante and is later married to him. This is a package deal, because they can’t stand alone on their own for their cultural meaning stems from them being together, as they symbolize love overcoming extreme difficulties, even the great divide of culture, family and religion. The relationship between Florante and Laura is so divine and special because their love for each other proved that love conquers all. Their love for each mother must set a standard to all of us that we should fight for the one we love and cherish the most. In the story, even if there were so many obstacles and problems that came into their lives they still manage to maintain what they have for each other. It should be an example to all of us of how real love is.…
* Simoun - Crisostomo Ibarra in disguise, left for dead at the end of Noli Me Tangere, has resurfaced as the wealthy jeweler, Simoun, now sporting a beard, blue-tinted glasses, and a revolver. Fueled by his mistreatment at the hands of the Spaniards and his fury at Maria Clara's fate, he has since shed his pacifist image and become the titular "filibustero", pretending to side with the upper class and encouraging them to enslave the masses, while in reality siding with the masses and urging them to revolt against the oppressive Spanish regime. This time, he does not attempt to fight the authorities with knowledge, but by force. He concocts a plot to set off a bomb disguised as a beautiful lamp at a wedding where important members of civil society and the church hierarchy are in attendance. Unfortunately for him, his plan fails and he commits suicide by consuming poison.…
