Character Analysis Of Jayson From Fast Break

In the story, Fast break, the mainw character, Jayson, has to survive on his own. His mom died and his mom’s boyfriend left him. Now he has to do whatever is necessary to survive on his own, even stealing. He has been living on his own and nobody, not even his closest friends know. He’s been stealing until one day, he gets too cocky and goes for something big. Jayson steals whatever he needs such as food and clothing. Jayson steals bread from the Broad Avenue Food Mart. In the passage, it says,” Jayson, using his quick hands, put the loaf of bread under his sweatshirt. Then walked calmly toward the door” (Lupica 6). Also, when Jayson needed new footwear, he tried to steal them from Foot Locker but he got caught. “That’s when he felt
a large hand clamp down on my shoulder, Where do you’re going,son”(Lupica 24) This didn’t affect him as much because he felt bad about stealing from the start. He tried to make things right like paying people back. Although Jayson steals to survive, he later on regrets stealing from other people. In conclusion, Jayson survives by doing things that he’s not proud of like stealing. Close to the end of the story when he goes back to the places where he stole from, he starts to remember what he did. He paid with his own money to make up for what he did by paying Pete, the manager of Foot Locker, the amount it cost for the shoes he tried to steal, even though someone already payed for him. “He took a wad of cash out and handed it to Pete.”
