The Road Less Traveled By People are naturally drawn to the gruesome and horrifying; one might even claim that is part of what makes us human. We find ourselves curious despite all reason, even in times like now where have become almost numb to it. In a vision of a noble, prim, and proper Victorian house of two daughters, their step-mother and their father, no one would ever expect to see a ghastly murder; perhaps that is why this particular case has outlasted the ages. The murder of Lizzie Borden’s parents has something to offer for everyone who looks into it: murder, drama, mystery, and perhaps even a hidden romance. Firstly, despite being a wealthy family, Bridget Sullivan testified that, “the Borden family lived frugally and ate a mutton-based diet” (Bergara). Secondly, it was known that there had always been some strain between the Borden sisters and their step-mother; Lizzie and Emma Borden feared that Abbie Borden’s only goal was to extort money from their family (“Lizzie Borden”). Lastly, Lizzie’s demeanor regarding the murder was uncompelling, to say the list. She showed very little emotion at all throughout the entire court process, and at mention of some details even smiled (Begara). Lizzie had been suspected of deviant behavior even prior to the accusations of murder. Lizzie had been accused of shoplifting by several local store owners, and was also heavily implicated in a theft from Mr. Borden himself (Fourteen Reasons).     Around 11 o 'clock she heard the youngest Borden daughter Lizzie cry out that her father had been murdered. Almost half an hour later, Abby 's body was found and she had met the same fate. Killed by being hacked to death with an axe, instead of the 81 whacks the popular children 's rhyme suggests it was only 29. When the coroners came they came to the conclusion that Abby was killed at least 90 minutes earlier than Andrew. Her body was found cold, while his was still warm. The interview notes say that Lizzie insisted quite a few times that Abby was her step-mother not her mother and she needed to be called as such. I understand that Abby wasn 't her biological mother but as stated in the previous paragraph she called her mother until she was 27, not to mention she married Lizzie 's father when Lizzie was just 5 years old. This suggests that she could have started to resent Abby for replacing Sarah(her mother). Also looking through the notes I saw that Andrew transferred a family property to Abby 's sister and Lizzie was infuriated when she found out. This could be her motive for killing him, along with hoping she received all of the property left…

    For many years people have been fascinated with murder cases. There have been many cases throughout the U.S. that many people have been interested in. Such a case is the Lizzie Borden case. Evidence has proved that Lizzie Borden murdered her parents because; of her poor relationship with her step-mother, her resentment of her father, and her mental instability. On August 4, 1892, Lizzie Borden committed the gruesome atrocity of bludgeoning Andrew and Abby Borden to death. (Linder, 2004) The reason behind this was, she had a poor relationship with her step-mother, Abby Borden. During her interrogation she told detectives when they referred to Abby as her mother, “She is not my mother, sir, she is my stepmother. My mother died when I was a child.” (King, 2016) This shows that Lizzie never viewed Abby as her mother. Moreover, Lizzie and Abby hardly spoke. Lizzie hadn't eaten with her parents for five years. (King, 2016) This shows Lizzie had a tense relationship with Abby for quite some time. In conclusion, Lizzie's relationship with Abby had been tense for years. Lizzie also happened to resent her father, Andrew Borden. For instance, she resented her father for giving Abby more things than her. Andrew gave Abby a property which made Lizzie resent her father and loathe Abby even more. Furthermore, Andrew killed pigeons in his barn that Lizzie had built a roost for.
