Character Analysis Of Mr Van Daan In The Diary Of Anne Frank

During World War II there was so much evil and violence. Jews were being burned in stoves. They had to hide from the Nazis. Despite all this Anne Frank still managed to believe that “people are really good at heart.” This is not necessarily true. In The Diary of Anne Frank, Mr Van Daan is a very selfish man which means that he disproves Anne’s quote. The men in Night by Eli Wiesel also couldn’t care less about the Jews in the concentration camps. In the Journal Entries Anne’s belief is disproven because people are stealing food and beating people up. Not everyone is truly good at heart as we can see from these sources. First of all, in the Diary of Anne Frank Mr Van Daan is a very selfish man. He wants to sell a something that isn’t his for money. On pg 43, line 29 Mr Van Daan says, “You can’t hold on to a fur coat when people are in such desperate need of warm clothing. Besides we’re broke.” This shows that all he really cares about is money.
