Character Analysis Of Odysseus And The Sirens '
In the script “Odysseus and the Sirens”, Odysseus, a Greek soldier, is a true hero. This is shown through his actions, words, and thoughts from other present characters. He portrays many heroic characteristics throughout the entirety of the script, consisting of selflessness, dedication, and bravery. He demonstrates these acts through, selflessly risking his life for the sake of others. Dedicating his time to defeating an opposing enemy, and being brave as he faces a deadly situation.
The first heroic trait in correlation with Odysseus would be selflessness. Throughout the progression of the script, Odysseus is read speaking and doing many things that resemble selfless behaviour. For example, when Athena brought up the topic of the Sirens …show more content…
Odysseus has accomplished many things through his bravery, such as fighting in the Trojan War, facing the Sirens, and putting his life on the line for the sake of others. Throughout the script, Odysseus demonstrates his true bravery. “I don’t have time to explain. We’ve got to get moving … First lower the sail. Then muster again for further orders.” (176) these two quotes show that even in a dire situation, he kept a calm a level-headed attitude, and led his crew forward, leaving his life in the hands of fate. Once they reached their destination, Odysseus faced the Sirens with courage and a cold stare, even though he had heard many stories being tossed around about the dozens of men that have been lured to their death because of these mystical creatures. Odysseus didn’t succumb to their temptations though, and instead kept his bearings and shot back at them, even driving them as far as to have them admit they were going to kill themselves, for they had failed to send him to his death. When his crew untied him from the mast, his bravery was rewarded with a quick comment when his crewmates said he “sure fought like a devil to get away.” (185)
In conclusion, these are the three reasons Odysseus is a hero. One, he was a selfless man when it came to the safety and freedom of others. Two, his dedication ended up assisting him in the downfall of Troy; having him recognized as a hero for these acts. Three, his bravery that pulled
