The Breakfast Club Character Analysis The Breakfast Club shows many different conflicts that occur during adolescence and is a great resource when learning about how an adolescent thinks, how one forms his or her identity, what influences an adolescent, and so much more. It also emphasizes on all the conflicts and crisis an adolescent is dealing with and what peer groups or cliques an adolescent may fit in with. Much information can be learned from watching this film that can leave clues as to how different types of adolescents might deal with the changing period in their life. Andy seems to be of a muscular build due to his sport and is probably an early maturer. He is already is high school and already shows the signs of appropriate early maturing, because he is already developed pretty much from boy to man. According to Sheldon’s body types, there are three categories, called ectomorph, mesomorph, and endomorph. Ectomorph consists of a thin and lanky build, mesomorph is more of a muscular and athletic build, and endomorph refers to a more of a fat and overweight build. Andy would fit in the category of a mesomorph build because he has a muscular and athletic build. He seems to not have much fat on him and more muscles, which are defined in his arms. He most likely was involved in sports at an early age especially if his dad is very into sports and wanted him to start wrestling at an early age. He responds with more typical responses and has less of an imagination, maybe in an effort to blend with the rest of the “preppy” and popular crowd. He also is more masculine, physically attractive, well-groomed, and mature than others his age, especially when comparing him to Brian. Because of being an early maturer, he is able to have more leadership ability, which is seen when he sticks up for other people, especially to Bender when Bender won’t leave others alone. Although he may be put down easily by his father, he has self-assurance more so than late maturers that he will eventually work things out with his dad, and won’t let others, like his peers, put him down. He is an early maturing male which means that will have his first date with someone inside his peer group. It is clear that at the beginning of the film that his life revolves around sports and not about relationships with girls. Towards the end of the movie, Andy seems mesmerized by Allison’s transformation, finding her to be very attractive and beautiful. He begins to think about the possibility of having a relationship with her and ends up kissing her at the end of the movie. This supports that he will date people within his peer group, because Allison is in his peer group and is close to the same age as
