is in a good situation because of the amount of money, power, and property that Logan has, but she is unhappy, because he is controlling of her, and gives her no opportunity to become her own person – she is his wife, and nothing more. Logan Killicks owns a farm with 60 acres of property, and has a very nice home, with money to provide for financial security. After losing his first wife, he goes to Janie’s grandma, coming to the house often, because he has his eye on Janie. He convinces Granny to let him take Janie as his wife. Janie is unhappy with the marriage, because she is not attracted or in love with Logan. She would prefer a man who was younger, cleaner, and more of an intellectual or artistic type, instead of a farmer. Logan spends much of his time on the farm doing work, because he feels they are his way of life and must continue to be done. In the end, Janie decides to leave Logan and pursue her new love, Joe Starks, in hopes of finding true love, and having a happier life where she can chase her wishes and become the free woman she wishes to be, instead of being held back by a man she is not in love with or attracted to. I believe that I am very different from Logan Killicks.
We are different in age, in how we grew up, and how we view people of romantic interest. Although he has good intentions and treated Janie well, he didn’t take into account – or care – that she didn’t love him. For myself, I would rather be with someone that liked me just as much as I liked them. I would want someone that I can find true love with, so both of us are happy. It was this theme that shows that Janie is not happy with her life or marriage at that point. Secondly, Logan has a lot of money, property, and influence in his town down in the South. He is a very established man. As a high school student, I am still finishing my main education before college, and am working on becoming a smarter person. I am not yet at that point in life where I am influential or have much money – yet. Lastly, Logan seems to be someone that is traditional. He likes to stay set in his ways and does not like new things or change. As someone who has grown up in a small, rural town, where change doesn’t happen much, I have come to find that I would like to find new opportunities, changes of scenery, and new friends/experiences in my life. I feel that Logan and I are different in that he is ok with living the same life he has for the past 60 years, and I am someone who wants to make big changes with my future, and lead a new life that is different from the life I had here in my hometown of Clewiston. In conclusion, I don’t believe that Logan and I have much in common. We are very
different
