Character Development In A Christmas Carol

“I will honor Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all year,” (Ebenezer Scrooge). A Christmas Carol (Dickens 1832) is one of the most well known Christmas stories of all time. The story begins on Christmas Eve when Ebenezer Scrooge is visited by three ghosts starting with his old business partner Marley, then followed by the Ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future. Each ghost that visited Scrooge takes him through his own past, present and future and shows him how his actions have affected those around him. Before the ghosts came to Scrooge he was very cold hearted. The spirits taught him to be positive and to always have Christmas spirit in his heart. In the novel A Christmas Carol, the plot is most advantageous because of it’s structure format. Also, the novel uses narration to progress the order of events so they have a flow to them. During the graveyard scene in A Christmas Carol, the plots flow was very easy to understand and follow. Scrooge exclaimed, “Men’s courses will foreshadow certain ends, to which, if preserved in, they must lead,” (Dickens 35). This quote explains the event that is happening to the reader.
