Character Evaluation: Jackson Teller

There are five personality trait clusters which include extraversion, neuroticism, openness to experience, conscientiousness, and agreeableness. People generally score somewhere in the middle of the spectrums. Some people; however, can score on the higher or lower ends of the spectrums. Jackson Teller, also known as Jax, from the television series Sons of Anarchy, displays traits from each of the five clusters. His behavior and choices are sometimes affected by some of the personality traits that he possesses. Let’s see where Jax falls on the spectrum of each of the clusters.
Jackson Teller seems to be more of an extravert than an introvert. He is very sociable, outgoing, and extremely impulsive. Jax does have his moments where he wants to be alone, and he becomes withdrawn. He does this when he is reading the letters that his father wrote to him before his father died. However, there are more times when he is the center of the group because he is looked up to, and he is also very well-liked by most. This is why I believe that Jax is more of an extravert than an introvert.
Jax has a very bad temper, is hostile at times, and lets his moods get the best of him. These traits are part of neuroticism. There was an episode where an ATF (alcohol, tobacco, firearms) agent was stalking Jax’s ex-girlfriend/wife to be, Tara. Jax shoots the agent out of anger, rage, and protection for Tara. Jax let his anger take charge and he did something irrational because the agent would not leave Tara alone. Jax felt like he had no other choice even though he had never killed anyone for personal reasons before.
One of the trait clusters that describe Jax very well is openness to experience. Our text states, person’s high in O are described as original, imaginative, independent, etc. (McAdams, p 185). Throughout the series Jax is devising a plan to steer the motorcycle club away from transporting drugs and selling guns. He wants the club to get away from illegal activities and
