In considering myself as a teacher, I find that I have high levels of a few of the dimensions of personality.
These dimensions will help me in my career as a teacher. First is extraversion. Because I am outgoing, I will be able to stand in front of a class, make a fool of myself, and not bat an eye. I will, hopefully, be able to rub off on my student and help them step out of their shell. Second is agreeableness. I like to think that I am very compassionate, which like I stated before, will help me become an outstanding teacher. Third is conscientiousness. I am extremely organized and persistent. These two characteristics are good for teachers that want to keep track of papers and also be able to stay on top of students and their work. Finally is openness. Because I am highly imaginative, I will be able to create new and exciting exercises and lesson plans for my students. These strengths will help me succeed in my teaching
career. With these strengths, come my challenges. First of all, I am not the most patient person. I will definitely need to work on that before going full-time in the classroom. Also, I do not have large amount of empathy. This could cause problems when I need to figure out what is wrong with my students. Finally, I often feel insecure about myself. This is another thing I need to work on before I start teaching. In a classroom, I will need to be confident in myself or else I will get eaten alive, especially in my future middle school classes. With hard work, I am sure I will be able to overcome these weaknesses. Through explaining my ideas of the relationship between emotional development and an outstanding teacher, I have begun looking at myself and how I will measure up. I have realized I need to work on my patience, empathy, and insecurity in order to get on the road to becoming an outstanding teacher.
