Hardworking was a part of David he was always clearing trees from the Smoke and other such things like that.
One day David had spent hours of clearing scrap metal in the Smoke. “A few hours later, a pile of scrap metal stood in one corner of the clearing”(Westerfield 202). Another one is that David said “Hard work’s a good distraction” (Westerfield 202). When Tally had came to the smoke she had become good friends with David and her bestfriend Shay lives there also. Generous is another part of David and while Tally was living in the Smoke he had taught Tally a lot of things like, “how to repair clothes with a needle and thread, how to tell raptors from their prey, and even how to clean fish” (Westerfield 219). While becoming good friends with Tally he was very generous to let Tally meet his parents who started the Smoke. “I’d like you to meet my parents”(Westerfield 239). These two traits hardworking and generous are traits that readers would want to have. That is probably why Tally, Shay, and others from Smoke liked David because of those traits.
