When I was looking on the computer for a nice-looking breed of dog to have for a pet, I immediately fell in love with the American Pit Bull Terrier. They are absolutely adorable. I went to pick up two puppies that same day. When I got there, I was a little hesitant to enter the house. There was about huge blue pit-bull who weighed about a hundred and twenty pounds staring right at me. They assured me that it was fine to come in and as soon as I did, the big blue ox jumped right up on my chest and started to lick me. That is when I knew I had to have one. They are intimidating to people who don't know much about them, but are loyal to their owners. I bought two of them and loved them to death. They were the perfect pets. They make excellent guard dogs and know who is supposed to be on your property and who is not. I think that the…

“Prairie dogs have a significant effect on biological diversity in prairie ecosystems. More than 200 species of wildlife have been associated with prairie dog towns, with over 140 species benefitting directly…” (Williams 34). Terry Tempest Williams, author of the book “Finding Beauty in a Broken World,” delivers a strong argument as to why prairie dogs should be protected. Prairie dogs contribute to the welfare of animals around them in many ways. They create diversity, kinship and community. Williams also states, “They embody two million years of evolving intelligence” (Williams 33). They are social creatures, and they all live in towns and villages. They kiss when they greet each other, as a way of distinguishing one from another. Once recognized,…

Dogs’ are commonly thought of as a man’s best friend, akin to how Lennie is George’s best friend. Numerous times throughout the novel Of Mice and Men, a dog is used to foreshadow Lennie’s fate, thus Lennie is compared to a dog, “I want you to stay with me, Lennie. Jesus Christ, somebody'd shoot you for a coyote if you was by yourself.(12)” Lennie, a mentally disabled man, relies on George for survival from himself. Lennie’s instinctive actions, much like a dog, require a master, in this case George, to guide him from penalties, in severe cases death; also reinforcing the theme of loneliness vs. companionship. Candy’s dog, like Lennie in a way, is no good for himself, so Carlson continues to tell Candy, “"They way I'd shoot him, he wouldn't…
