Characteristics Of Machiavelli's The Prince By Donald Trump

On Saturday, January 21st Donald Trump was inaugurated as the 45th president of the United States, to be the leader of one of the largest and most influential nations in the world. In the mid-16th century Niccolò Machiavelli published “The Prince”, a literary work which, amongst other things, laid out the ideal characteristics of a leader according to Machiavelli. These characteristics that Machiavelli references include being duplicitous or deceitful, cunning, narcissistic, and controlling. Now, think back to what President Trump has done in not just his first hundred days in office but in the campaign leading up to his election. President Trump has shown clear signs of being self-serving, with his continued and near obsessive use of his personal Twitter, he is controlling, such as when he accused the former President Obama of wiretapping the White House, and most of all he is deceitful. President Trump is an ideal leader according to Machiavelli because he utilizes control, deceit, and narcissism to achieve his goals.
Amongst these characteristics are duplicitousness, or being deceitful. During President Trump’s campaign he promised numerous things which he has not followed through on including the release of his tax audit his promise to make no cuts on Medicaid. In regards to Medicaid, in fact, his new budget actually looks at cutting the majority, if not the entirety, of medicare and Medicaid. He has consistently lied to the citizens of the United States, during and after his campaign. Notably he has lied about certain citizens whom he deems unfavorable, such as Mexican Americans. He has called them rapists, criminals, and drug dealers even though there is no statistical evidence to support the claim.
