Tybalt, Juliet’s cousin, was the living embodiment of the feud between the Capulet and Montague families. He represents the hatred the families share towards each other, showing how he has learnt from birth to hate the Montague family. He is seen as the instigator of countless events with Romeo and his friends, even killing Romeo’s best friend, Mercutio. After killing Mercutio, in an act of revenge Romeo kills Tybalt. Juliet, regardless of being related to Tybalt, even knows that Romeo “lives, that Tybalt would have slain, And Tybalt’s dead, that would have slain [her] husband” (Shakespeare 3.2.115-118).…

Lord Capulet responds surprisingly well to the news of Romeo arriving at the party. “Content thee gentle coz. Let him alone.” States Capulet in act 1 scene 5. “Love does not begin and end the way we seem to think it does. Love is a battle, love is a war; love is a growing up.” This quote was made famous by James Baldwin and explains that love can be great, but can end in consequence. This quote can easily get blended in with the famous ‘Romeo and Juliet’ by Williams Shakespeare. Which is about a couple who have to deal with their families hating one another. Even though a lot of romantic things happen, some parts led up to the fate of the couple. There are many examples of this that are evident throughout the play such as Romeo’s impulsiveness, Tybalt’s hot temper, and Friar Lawrence’s spontaneous planning.…

Shakespeare is widely considered the greatest dramatist of all time, and considering he used personification often throughout his works, it must be a technique worth exploring. In Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, he attributes human qualities to the month of April, as well as the Winter season. He expresses April as a rushed month, in a hurry and able to dress up and walk. The purpose of this personification is to convey the expectation of Spring as a time for sunshine and happy feelings. In this scenario, April is rushing because it is making the long awaited transition out of winter and into Spring, which is why it is personified as “stepping on winter”.…

Are young people more likely to behave in an impetuous manner? Does age necessarily affect your behaviour and decisions in a negative way? Colin Cobuild English Language Dictionary defines impetuous as - “Someone who is impetuous is likely to act quickly and suddenly without thinking or being careful.” I believe that while the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare clearly portrays its youthful characters as being quick to act without thought or caution, this is not the case for all young people. Furthermore, it is my belief that all people, regardless of age, are capable of acting in an impulsive and hasty manner.…
