Evie has a birthmark a birthmark on her left shoulder: "My sister has a very small brown spot on her left shoulder. I don’t. This was the only way we could ever be told apart". Evie is very naughty and is always getting into trouble. When they are doing tests and exams Evie is writing Edie's name on the paper, so when the teacher is confronting them, Evie will smile pleased to the teacher and say that she is Edie. In the end Evie gets out of control and steals Edie's passport.
Evie is the storyteller. She is cheating us through the hole story and manipulates us. She is telling the story through Edie's point of view so we think that Edie is the bad one. But in reality Evie is the bad one. She is telling the story like if she had to tell it to the schoolteachers or policemen. You can see that in the end: "I still go to my job every day. I’m still free. I never go to visit my sister in prison. I’m afraid that she might show someone that she doesn’t have a birthmark on her left shoulder. Then someone might look, and they will find that I do".
Edie is the opposite of Evie. She is the one who never gets into trouble and is always very bright in the school. She is always doing her homework and is doing very well to the exams and tests. When they left school Edie is working hard in a office and is going to get a promotion. In the end Edie is convicted and gets into prison, because Evie steals Edie's passport. Edie gets blamed for the appalling things Evie is doing. She never wants to get Evie into trouble: "Identical twins are always very close, and even though I knew she was bad, I didn’t want to get her into trouble."

Doing these things only scare Christopher, they do not help him grow. Not only does Ed not control his anger towards Christopher, he also can not control his anger around Christopher.
