was Anna Strong, since she was a spy The first woman who shares the same characteristic as Sophia, is Anna Strong. She was a spy, who worked for George Washington during the American Revolution. Anna Strong has children, and she had land that she could own at the same time two, which made things a bit harder for her since it was a struggle to also fight in the war and having her husband taken away.Sophia and her both had people taken away, but, that only made them stronger in spirit and to be more determined to get down to business. “After the British captured her husband, Anna Strong, like many women, was tasked with running a household, rearing her children, and tending to the land on her own.” meaning that she lost someone, but had to fight even harder without them despite the conditions. On p. 121, Sophia says, “ THE DEATH OF William proved a terrible blow to my parents and to me.” Which showed that her family suffered a lot from this, but Sophia decided to stick up and kept fighting for her country. In the article, she talks about how she was apart of the Culper Spy Ring, and which then, she was able to figure out Benedict Arnold’s plans. From what these two have in common, they both were able to take on the impossible, fighting all by themselves and figuring out the different plans of other people, and have very strong spirits that never stop fighting.
The next woman who shares the same characteristics as Sophia, is Emily Geiger, because she was able to stay secretive about her information, and not to be killed from the soldiers.
Emily Geiger was on a mission, to bring a message to Thomas Sumter, because it was a special message from General Nathaniel Greene, talking about troop movements. When she was on her way, she was stopped by British troops. They rummaged through her things, found the letter, and tore it up. When this happened, she was able to recite the whole letter, and was let free. Some ways how Sophia and Emily share similar experiences, are when Amanda quotes, “A teenager, Geiger volunteered to travel 100 miles with a handwritten message from General Nathaniel Greene to General Thomas Sumter troop movements. On the second day of her journey, Geiger was stopped by British scouts. Without evidence of a written dispatch in her possession, Geiger was let go, but because she had committed the contents of the message to memory, she still successfully delivered Greene’s orders, which spelled the end of Lord Rawdon’s army.” Which showed that she was very capable of doing things and keep things secret to herself. In Sophia’s war, Sophia remarks, “You need to know, that I am the one who uncovered your plot. It’s I who put an end to it. These both show that girls/women are just a capable boys/men with delivering things, and exposing all of it to the crowd, and saving lives
to. The last woman to have similar characteristics to Sophia, is Sybil Ludington. Sybil Ludington was believed to be the second “Paul Revere” by going twice the distance he went, and told the other’s the “The British were coming” She was able to make in time, and the American’s were able to ambush them, and which she will be remembered as the “female Paul Revere.” Sophia and Sybil are both in common for both exploiting plots of the two. Sophia told Major Tallmadge that , “ I further told him what I had discovered. That I had been giving my information to Mr. Townsend until he disappeared.” Which shows that she was able to expose John Andre and Benedict Arnold’s plans to take over West point. The says, “Sybil Ludington of Putnam County, New York, is purported to have also set out on a midnight ride double the distance of Revere’s to warn the people that the British were coming.” In doing this, she was successful in telling the others, and getting them prepared, while also delivering a letter to a major General. This shows that the two ladies have skill in communication and getting through things very slick, so that they don't get caught.
The three women, Anna Strong, Sybil Ludington, and Emily Geiger all share things in common with Sophia, but more than that, the four share something all together. They share doing the impossible, some things that men can’t do, and women just pick up and finish what the men have started/ or do the whole thing, and working by themselves, to get the job done quickly and smoothly.
