My Autobiography
Charles Chaplin Charles “Charlie” Chaplin is a name that is incredibly well known not only in the United States, but around the world as well! Charlie Chaplin was an actor, a comedian, and a natural born performer. He never failed to excite his audiences with new comedy sketches and dramas. Not only was he a spectacular performer, but later in life he began writing movies and plays as well; Charlie was a man of many talents. He loved being in the lime light! To the world he seemed to be an incredibly happy man, but in reality his life was anything but easy. Charlie went through many ups and downs during the course of his life. He was faced with such terrible circumstances in which the average human, most likely, could never have endured. Charlie never gave up and despite all of the obstacles in his life he found a way to make something of himself. He chose to share his journey in a book entitled, My Autobiography. In this amazing book he shares with the world his journey from being a poor boy, living in the outskirts of London, to becoming a world-wide phenomenon! Charles Spencer Chaplin Jr. was born on April 16th, 1889 in the outskirts of London, England. Both his mother and father were performers. His mother, Hannah Chaplin, was a singer. His father, Charles Chaplin Sr, was an actor. He had an older brother named Sydney. Charlie’s father was a drunkard and therefore his mother and father split. Consequently, Charlie did not have a father figure in his life as he was growing up. His mother was the one who raised both him and his brother. She was doing incredibly well, both as a singer and as a mother. Then, she began to lose her voice. People stopped hiring her to perform because her voice would crack in the middle of performances. With the decrease of money flowing into their household the Chaplins had to move into a small one room house.
Eventually, Charlie’s mother could no longer afford

    2) Much of the beginning of our film is spent learning more of Charlie and also introduces Susan Orlean, author of "The Orchid Thief". Charlie seems to have developed a writer's block with his screenplay as well as with his life. Unable to rationally think and with very little self confidence we watch as Charlie desperately tries to sort out his "simple" adaptation of the book. The inciting incident of our film, to me, was when Charlie's twin brother Donald Kaufman decides he also would like to be a screen writer. Charlie finds him to be an annoyance and doesn't seem to be very supportive of his brother's ideas and methods of writing. Charlie believes that no self help book or seminar can possibly teach one person to write an amazing script. Some dramatic irony is introduced as Charlie receives a phone call from his agent exclaiming how brilliant Donald's script is. Irony at its greatest, an amateur…

What you are about to see in the film City Lights (1931) is a funny and emotional motion picture. This is an extraordinary silent film; it is poetic, moving, and tender. Charlie Chaplin is a master at comedic pantomime, conveying everything he does without the necessity of actually talking, but through the universal language of movement, gestures, and reactionary expressions. The film humorously displays the misadventures of the “Little Tramp” character and the harsh reality of The Great Depression. During the 1930s, the setting of which the film takes place in, nearly every major industrialize country was experiencing “a severe worldwide economic depression, however, in most countries it started in 1929 and lasted until the late 1930s. It was the longest, deepest, and most widespread depression of the 20th century” (Wikipedia).…

In 1914, Making a Living was released, and with it, the world was introduced to Sir Spencer “Charlie” Chaplin. Born in 1889, Chaplin spent his early years preparing himself for the camera in dance troupes and stage comedy routines (Charlie Chaplin, 2005). Having been born into poverty, Chaplin’s rise to fame and riches was tremendously difficult, and in no small part due to Chaplin’s revolutionary approach to cinema and comedy specifically. Chaplin redefined the comedy genre by bringing intelligence and sophistication to what was otherwise a slap-stick dominated field (Charlie Chaplin, 2005). Chaplin achieved this through refining the conventions of filming, extensive character development, portraying gender roles realistically, bringing attention…
