hung for his scientific discoveries and many radical christians today still feel the need to personally attack him.
Evolution still contradicts religion in some aspects.
For example, in Darwin’s book he stated that humans originally derived from monkeys. He came to this conclusion by studying the anatomy of monkeys and saw homologous structures that humans share with them which hinted at a common ancestor. These points disregard God, saying He is not a part of the creation process for example, in Genesis the bible states God made man in his own image. When Christians hear this they become threatened and believe Darwin was saying the bible is like a fable. Darwin also states that people are servants to the environment and not superior beings. This also counters religion, again in Genesis God gave man dominion over all the creatures on earth. Lastly, more theories of evolution, natural selection and geographic distribution, can dispute religious views. Natural selection states some organisms are better equipped for survival than others and will pass on their genes to offspring. Geographic distribution is the observation that organisms in South America are more similar to South American organisms when compared to organisms living in similar environments in Europe. Christians believe God’s creation is an act of forethought not by natural processes.
In my opinion, I think it’s great that science and faith are being intertwines in today’s world. I understand Charles Darwin did not want to offend christians or attack their religion, he was a scientist and it was something he wanted answers and sought to find them. It’s important for children to learn both sides, if they are religious, so they can formulate their own ideas and not become misinformed and continue the cycle. However, there are many people who will disagree with this, therefore Darwin’s ideas are still dangerous in today’s
society.
