Charley Chapter Summaries
Charley is a boy who was about to begin his freshman year of high school. He is writing his first letter to an unknown friend because he needs to let his thoughts out to someone. He begins his letter by telling how he lost his best friend Michael who passed away, and later learns that Michael had commit suicide by shooting himself. Charlie was devastated. Michael death makes him wonder if he also has “problems at home”.
Charlie brother went away to college in Penn State and his sister is a senior. Charlie is starting his first year in high school with no friend until he meat a senior from shop class Patrick. Charlie witnesses a boy hit his sister a few days before he accidentally walks in on them having sex. One-day Charlies AP English teacher Bill and him get into a discussion about family issues and he tells Bill about the incident with his sister and her boyfriend, and Bill calls and tells his parents. Charlie’s dad went to the boy’s house and warns him to stay away from his daughter and he also talk to the boy’s parents about it. After that Charlie’s sister tells Charlie that she hates him.
Charlie decides to attend the high school football game, something he used to do with Michael when he was still alive. His friend Patrick whose nickname is “Nothing,” invite him to seat with him and introduce his stepsister Sam to Charlie, who he immediately has a crush on, but he’s too shy to act on it. Later that week, Charlie told Sam about his dream about having sex with her, Sam told Patrick and Patrick gives Charlie advice about dating girls and taught Charlie about

So, he goes to the homecoming football game and sits with Patrick and Sam and they invite him to a party after the game. During the dance, Charlie sees a football player, Dave and his girlfriend dancing, and that remind him of a story about back when his brother was 16 and decided to have a house party while their parents were in Ohio. During the party, Dave came in Charlie’s room with his girlfriend and started messing around with her, now he realized that he actually witnessed a guy who is now the star football player rape a girl, who is currently his girlfriend. Sam stopped Charlie from doing anything rash, but he gets so mad and instead he took his revenge by slashing the tires of Dave’s car on his way out.
They decided to goes to Bob’s house, who is a drug dealer, and on the way to the house Charlie felt that they seem great in the car because they just seem so free and comfortable with themselves, after Charlies listen to a song play from the radio, he says that he feels
